2013 Ampeg V-4B 100W Reissue Pt2

Clap Trap, while this guy seems to know what he's talking about, you will find out he does not and this is NOT common. I made the same mistake when I started considering a V4B this video really turned me off and I almost decided to go with a different amp. Do yourself a favor and if you are seriously interested read through this thread.

Not only was I turned off by this video but the V4b in a local store didn't work right when I went to try it. It really had me concerned, as it turns out my V4b is awesome and I can't imagine living without it.

I wouldn't neccessarily grab my pitch fork and start screaming troll. If you are serious and do your homework this video pops up

Great post peterp..... That Utube video turned me off buying my V4B for awhile. Since I knew I could return it at minimal cost if any, I went for it and glad I did. Sure wish that dude would've done a follow up video with a different unit about a year or so later. I think he made some good points but with his possibly defective unit. I imagine if this was a common occurrence there'd be a lot more videos and/or TBers griping about this amp. Haven't seen that happen.

Sweetwater 24 months 0% interest is well, sweet. I got lucky and got in on the 36 month 0%. Even at just one gig a month, if that happens, I can more than pay for this amp without touching the "home budget." Again, sweet(water).

Well I know that video upset a lot of Ampeg fans out there and I really understand that, I'm not a Ampeg fan at all and not a vintage amp stuff either but I respect their history and importance in the field, the point was that the guy had some issues with a 2K$ piece of gear (and there was quite a few flaws) and that wasn't supposed to happen when we talk about the Ampeg , iconic amp manufacturer and really not with this top line product...

I'm not going to touch most of this post, but...

$2k? He says right in the video it was $1300 and I think we all know that is the retail cost.

I asked the same question about the same video on page 72 of this thread. Everyone responded to it. No need to go back and do this again.

That being said if you are not a fan of ampeg or tube amps I'm not sure it's worth anyone else's time.

That being said I absolutely love my V4B and it's light enough to not be a big deal, like bringing a small cab to a gig.

Maybe we should save our responses to that video on a Word file so we can just instantly paste them up when that video pokes it's head out of the sewers of Chandler AZ every couple of months. It is not worth any more time than a left and a right click on the mouse.

Well, I aint no Ampeg Fanboy, I'm a BASS GEAR WHORE!! I own Ampeg, GK, GB, Ashdown, Carvin, BBE pre, couple power amps and Eden, Aguilar, Sadowsky pree's. So not just here to defend my Ampeg. And it's just weird to me how someone can HATE an inanimate object like a piece of bass gear. Don't like what it does for you musically, fine, move on to the next piece. Plenty of gear out there that should please someone at some point. God knows I keep buying n trying n flipping gear; mostly for fun now. A lot of my gear gives me great tone in different contexts.

Diggin' up a way, over year old, single video of a early unit with issues seems abit antagonistic to me. I gave that video its due regard because I can see its' point when he compared the V4B with his Peavey was it? I was concerned about the quality issues he stated. Again, it kept me from buying a new V4B for awhile. So I kept track of all the non-issue posts here. I watched for a lot of replies of the only 100 watts variety, another of my concerns.Then I felt good to go.

Eventually, I felt comfortable with the return policy so that if the V4B didn't pan out tone/power-wise. Or having to return it if it had issues within the generous return policy period. No loss other than some of my valuable time to have to deal with that; had I needed to. *and I'm retired. :thumbsup:

Seems "his" post is only doing what "he" set out to do and make us come out and defend gear we own like a "fanboy" might. So it worked. HooRay for you. Gonna go play my awesomely, overpriced, low quality Ampeg now. \m/

Long time fan, first time caller here. Hopefully this is the right place for my questions. Has anyone experienced/heard a few spitting/clicking sounds from their V-4B RI when bringing it out of standby, to on? I consistently hear the same, usually 3, spitting or clicking sounds. I haven't had any issues with performance thus far (and would like to keep it that way). Thanks!

Usually if I'm thinking of the same kind of noise I usually associate with with cell phone interference. Happens a lot more on guitar amps but I had a similar issue on my old SVT-CL. But it is/was random, not solely around the time of flipping the standby. Could be a tube issue related to switching on the high voltage.

A recording may help the experts to help you.

I would check the standby switch/connections.

Thanks. I know the cell phone noise and it is definitely not that. More of a quick pffft, pfft, pfft, noise. Happens every time I turn it on. I made sure all the tubes are tight in their sockets and its happened at various venues and on different outlets at home and on different cabs too. I have emailed ampeg but haven't heard back yet.

I have certainly not experienced that with the review unit. In fact, one of the things that I commented on was that it was dead silent (when it was supposed to be).
