Welp, my V4B should be here on Friday, just in time for my next gigs on Saturday and Sunday, so it looks like I'll be scooping most of you for once in my wretched and pathetic life! Might just have to bring the H810e to see what it does in it.

Uh boy
V4B and H810E
This is going to send you back in time the sweetest way.

Out of the shipping box and right to the gig! Looking forward to the review JimmyM!:D
That's how I roll! Pretty much every piece of gear I've bought goes right to the next gig. A couple times I made a mistake, like when I took my stock P Lyte to a gig as soon as I got it, but usually it works out.

So do you have a basic starting point in mind for gig settings? I guess the trick is figuring where to set the Gain/Master. You've played every Ampeg model so the controls would pretty much translate to the V4B fairly easily for you I would think.

I certainly am a little more anal. I usually have to use something new at a rehearsal before it goes to a gig. Especially basses. Then again I always take an extra head and bass to every gig for probably the last 20 years or so. One bad experience burns into my memory really quickly.

Rehearsal? What's that?

:D

Actually we do rehearse sometimes, but it's once in a great while, and almost always at soundchecks. I do have a soundcheck on Saturday where I can give it a shot, but I'm sure I'll love it. The recording with the P into the H810e convinced me.

And yes, I do have a starting place for every amp...knobs at noon. Doesn't end up that way, though. And Ampegs are all a little different, so it's never the same on any amp. Gain/master is easy for me now, though...master up all the way, gain controls volume. That way they sound like a non-master amp, which I greatly prefer when it comes to tube amps.

suhweeeeeettt...youll need some photos of this rig!!

it doesnt seem like youve had to wait too long really. although, im not the one waiting!

if this thing works out for you, and holds up...ill probably end up getting one as a back-up for my '75. Ive been kickin around the idea of replacing the Ashdown ABM EVOII (current back-up...wretched)

cheers!

Only ones who have played it are Ampeg employees and a handful of guests to the factory. That ends sometime on Friday afternoon as I will be unboxing mine that day according to UPS. But the goal for the new one is to sound identical to the old ones from the 70's, and everyone who's played it and compared it to the old V4B's at their offices says they nailed it. Sure sounds like they did in their demo vids.

Looking forward to hearing your review.

I'm sure they designed it to have tone that's as close as they could get to the original V4B, but that 100W difference in plate voltage has got to have an effect on dynamics.

Do you have an original V4B to do a side-by-side compare?
