Thank you, Fred.

:p

And yeah, I have gigs on Sat and Sun so I should be able to give it a good workout. As for pics, I don't know...it seems so much like bragging.

:D

Only ones who have played it are Ampeg employees and a handful of guests to the factory. That ends sometime on Friday afternoon as I will be unboxing mine that day according to UPS. But the goal for the new one is to sound identical to the old ones from the 70's, and everyone who's played it and compared it to the old V4B's at their offices says they nailed it. Sure sounds like they did in their demo vids.

Your a lucky man JimmyM.
This will be my next amp.:hyper:

I got to play one. I own a vintage v4 from 72. They sound way different. The new one sounds more like an svt. It's less warm than the vintage one. It does however have way more clean headroom. Only played it for a few minutes though so that's all I've got for you.

You played the new one that just arrived in some stores today? Or the V4BH?

Hmmmm. Everything we've been hearing from the folks that played them at Ampeg was that the reissue sounds pretty much dead-on to the original 70s version.

What else would you expect them to say?;)

Looking forward to hearing the reviews,,, and more looking forward to trying one out.

I suppose that's what I would expect the Ampeg folks to say, but I was under the impression that there were some "guest" bassists that played them as well. I would also expect that the Ampeg development team used the 70s tone as their baseline since that's what most people asked for in the reissue.

I am also really looking forward to the reviews!:D

Ya. Not trying to stir up any trouble, but Ampeg is in the business of selling amps, and they have a new amp coming out. People are after that vintage vibe, so of course they are going to say that this new amp is just like the old amp, and they aren't going to let anyone come into their space, play one, and talk about it that will say otherwise - especially before the thing is in the hands of the public.

It's hard to tell what an amp really sounds like from a youtube video. I would guess most of us, myself included, are listening on pretty bad speakers, audio compression, how is it recorded, etc. Time will tell. I suspect we will have some initial thoughts today, or maybe tonight when the first round of gigs are finished up.

Lot's of folks (myself included) wanting this amp to be something else - a smaller SVT, a bigger B15, an exact clone of a V4B... I have a feeling it will be it's own thing, and just hope it does it well.

I just think it's cool because it's a classic tube amp, with just the right modern features. IMO Fender went a little overboard (too many buttons and knobs) with the new bassman stuff... Ampeg seems to be doing it right. The beauty of some of the old tube amps is the simplicity.

While I see your point, I think the last thing they want are a bunch of TBers on the rampage about an amp that isn't as promised. 30 day return policies should cover the 'hearing curve' in case anyone has doubts once the first few reviews come out.

Ya. Seems like Ampeg kind of "gets it" and is doing some good stuff these days.

Like I said, I'm looking forward to the reviews, but more looking forward to playing one:bassist:

Can't fault you for thinking like that, but they're all pretty honest there and don't make claims about their gear unless they believe it.

Sorry...no pics yet...still waiting on UPS. Unfortunately, my neighborhood is usually one of their last stops. I knew I should have gone down there at 8 and picked it up!
