2014-2015 NHL Regular Season Thread

Well, not surprised at all with the Pens performance. They haven't figured out how to step up when the pressure is on. New coach, some new players, same results. Crosby has phenomenal hockey skills, but he's just not quite a leader.

This team is really suffering from the lack of a veteran presence. I miss the guys like Guerin and Gill, even Gary Roberts. Oh well.

The Bruins played 18 minutes of good hockey and escaped Detroit with a win after finding itself down by 2 goals early in the 3rd. Rask was sharp and rookie D-man Zack Trotman got the gamewinner with his first NHL goal. Next up is Toronto at home. With Ottawa continuing to win, the B's have to keep winning themselves. They have an odd schedule - Toronto at home on Saturday then 3 day break before a back-to-back on the road Wed and Thursday at Washington then Florida and ending on Saturday in Tampa. Ottawa will be playing that game in hand against Maple Leafs on Sunday with both teams playing the 2nd game of a back-to-back. Who knew the path to the SCP went through Toronto?

A Tale of Two Cities. The Kings annihilated the Oilers Friday night 8-1 dominating all the way through the game. Calgary hung on to a 1-0 lead for the better part of 2 periods but then got 3 more in the 3rd. We're still one up on the Kings but it's going right down to the wire. We play them 2nd last game of the season. I don't like our chances, but looking forward to that game nonetheless. Hiller got the SO after relieving Ramo who pulled something in the 1st minute. The win ties a record for the franchise for road wins - not bad for a rebuilding year!

Whether or not the FLames make the playoffs, FLames fans should be more than happy with how they've played--way beyond expectations--especially with that horrible Oilers team up the road.
Winnipeg fans must be getting a little antsy as well though.

Calgary is one of the first NHL teams I remember watching and reading/listening to. I'm glad to see them playing better, but I still miss Kiprusoff.

As for the Pens, at this point I'd rather see them lose out and miss the playoffs. The big front office, coaching staff, roster shake up didn't do anything. I think the team is stuck as they are as long as Crosby leads them. Excellent runs early and mid season, great stats here and there, some flashy play when given room on the ice. You can't really deny the fundamental hockey skills he has, and Malkin too, but you don't get much more than that.

Look at this deal with Ottawa. They come knocking on Boston's door to steal a playoff spot. Boston says 'nope', and runs off a string of important wins to pull away. Pittsburgh on the other hand is doing their best to give them the playoff spot Boston wouldn't. We'll see this week as Ottawa and Pittsburgh play Tuesday.

I'm not frutrated, I'm not mad. This has been the same since the SC in 2009. I'm used to it. I enjoy the regular season for what it is, then start preparing for baseball right about now.

We've got a pretty solid chance to win the division, but we're coming up just shy of the President's trophy. not bad for a team given 700-1 odds to win the Stanley cup before the year. We were supposed to be hanging out with Buffalo and Arizona.

I appreciate the vote of confidence in the B's, but they haven't said "nope," they have said "not yet". The chickens haven't hatched yet.

Thank you, Toronto, for the shootout victory over the Senators. Every point is important, and now the B's will be no worse than tied with a game in hand when they play again.

Gritty win for the Rangers over CBJ in OT. Great game to watch.
I'd like to see the Rangers put away teams like this with more ease. But I guess a few tight matches can help keep them sharp for SCP.

So I guess the Wild are content to loose for the rest of the week and throw away the biggest comeback in league history...and miss the playoffs. They look like a different team, like the Decber Wild.
