2023 Bass Acquisition Round Up

Had to go back through my pics to figure it out…

A few Peavey USA Millenniums…Tiger Eye 4 and 5 Plus are still here, Black Violet 4 Plus, although beautiful, is gone (neck had stability problems). Acquired a NOS Millennium Tiger Eye 5 Plus unfinished body and finished neck that is still waiting for…something.

Lakland US 55-14 (no pic)

Lakland US 55-63 (sold)…as is the Spector Euro4 LT in the same picture

And, just making the cutoff…Spector Euro5 LT Teal Glow Chuck Levin’s Limited Edition…bought from Guitar Center’s used site on Saturday, so now begins the wait to see if it’s amazing (a few, IME), or a turd (also a few, IME). I actually love the crapshoot of Guitar Center’s used section…I’ve gotten 2 of my nicest basses for good/great prices from GC Online. I’ve also ordered basses in “excellent” condition that could have been delivered by Jim Carrey in Ace Ventura, Pet Detective. Totally worth the ~$25 in shipping to say…”uh, no thanks…”. Looking forward to checking this one out in a week or so…

A NOS Millennium? Where in the world did you find that?

The NOS unfinished body was direct from Peavey via eBay…I actually bought two unfinished bodies, and traded one to @Reedt2000 for a Millennium 5 neck.
Peavey’s eBay store has all kinds of little treasures like that. EMG’s Reverb store is similar. I would love to find a good list of “outlets” like that.

Just 3 this year.

This absolutely hideous (Just kidding, @TeeSee, it’s gorgeous ;)) burst & tort from 1964 quickly became my #1:

This pristine tuxedo A width (1.5” nut) from 1973:

And the surprisingly excellent 60s Vintera Jazz in shoreline gold. My one and only Jazz and the first I’ve bought in years. I upgraded it with a push/pull series/parallel V/B/T. This thing smokes.

Tonight’s guest star is Peanut. She’s a good girl.

Even if it is *AHEM*, it's still very purdy. Love the ashtrays too. Rest of your collection not too shabby either, +1 for the pooches. :)

Nordstrand offset magnets pickups……..interesting.
Can you tell us in a few words what are the main differences between these offset magnets pickups vs standard ones ?

I think the offset magnets is a Nordstrand characteristic…these particular pickups are the NP4A (P) and NJ4SE (J). The NP4A is marketed as a higher output, somewhat brighter pickup than a vintage P, and I think that’s pretty accurate. I tend to prefer “warm” vs. “bright”, but I think of brightness in terms of the NP4A as having better overall clarity rather than a harshness or brittleness. I didn’t have an issue with the stock Yamaha P pickup, but I figured I’d match the set…I replaced the stock J because I found it noisy, and the Nordstrand J is hum canceling.

Anyway, they seem to be a good match in this bass…
