25" scale micro basses anyone?

What are your thoughts now that you logged more time?
For the price, I don't really have complaints besides the tuners - it is a fun little bass. There is a lack of good strings though. I put on the Goldtone Microbass strings, and ADG sound great - but the E sounds very unbalanced like it is muted with a sponge. If I sponge mute ADG strings though, it sounds great. There may be roundwounds that sound better without a mute. I'm pretty happy though for $70.

I need to unsubscribe from the Bass Japan Direct YouTube channel because every 6 months or so Danny posts a MIJ bass I’ve never seen before that I’m convinced I have to have.

Had to snag this History 24” jazz bass in lake placid blue. Just unboxed it today and it seems like every bit a “real” bass, just in miniature.

I have a Kala Sub4FS uke bass which has been fun but is a bit too finicky to intonate, keep in tune, and play “evenly”. I’m sure it’s my hands and technique but I’m not finding it something I can take out to play.

I have a battery powered Phil Jones amp and the goal is to have a small easy to travel with bass that I don’t have to feel is too precious to take camping or throw on the bike and haul to the park.

Also a perfect size for my 8 year old so maybe I can convince him to learn on it as a bonus (and nicer than any bass I had until my 20s).

Hadn’t seen this bass mentioned here yet/ the History HJB4 mini:

That looks nice - how much did it cost, if you don't mind?

I got this heavily modded one from another TB’er over the Summer and I love it. I’ve been thinking of replacing the pickups with some sort of soapbar as they are a weird tiny size.

Brilliant for the power source! Is that a simple/natural electrical connection?
Yes, there’s a whole thread on TB about running the double four off batteries (drill or laptop power bank). The amp is 20V DC, cost me $20 from Amazon to get a plastic adapter for the drill battery and then a plugin in connector for the plug the amp wants.

Scale is 24.625", says one video "reviewer", or 25", says another.
One specimen here on TB, owned by @Rat Blitz:

So, so, so... well: I definitely wanted to try the mini bass route and see if they are really worth the effort and the money. Surely, I don't have 2000 spare euro in the pocket for a beautiful Mayones Cali 4 bass...

Cali 4 • Mayones Guitars & Basses

And in addition I would say that, even if they are absolutely little works of art, I am not intrigued by the fact that this very refined, high luthiery, high cost little bass has the nut that starts physically where the 12th fret on a standard 34" scale bass is.

(If I understood it right, the Cali 4 scale it's sort of a half regular scale).

Nor I am keen to spend a lot on the beautiful Vimana....

Vimana | Meridian

Then there is the Squier mini-Precision, that is just 2 inches less than a standard 30" short scale. Sexy; and you can personalize it as a regular P. But it's still far from the travel bass concept. So, finally I pulled the trigger on this one below:

NBD: Rocktile TB-4 (aka Glarry CW101) 25" scale mini-bass

Not too costly and different from the standard products. The overall look is sort of a mini Warwick. Well: I must say that after a few days of honeymoon, I am VERY satisfied by this little bass, that is tuned EADG standard and that responds very well (extremely well!) to the bassplayer hand touch. Finally, its sound is the sound of a... bass guitar!!!

Any other 25" bass out there worth looking at? Opinions? Desires? Prices? Availabilities? Pictures? Carrots, maybe? :)

I've strongly considered buying one of those, but restring it an tune it to C standard tuning.

Kind of a like a Tenor Baritone Guitar.

The Eastwood Tenor Baritone Guitar is just 0.5" longer scale.

Also that bass is not 25" , but actually 25.5" scale, like a "Fender/non Gibson scale" guitar, the Eastwood Tenor Baritone Guitar is 26" scale length.

Got my 28.6" scale 5 string Ibanez Mikro Bass tuned to G# standard tuning, that is a Tenor Bass kind of tuning, which is actually my main.

I recently acquired a Glarry GW101 from eBay for just under $57 brand new. It had a lot of issues out of the box that took me a few weeks to get sorted between work, gigs and travel. I'm actually rather impressed with the little thing, even though I find the scale length hard to adjust to. I bought it more as a novelty than anything serious to use. Tone wise it is on par with most low end instruments. I had intended to upgrade a lot of items on it, but lost interest in doing that and decided to leave it with all the stock components. The only things I did to it were shield the pickup routes and the control cavity, a full fret job and repainted the headstock (the Glarry logo was very faint and I thought it looked terrible). After the headstock repaint, I had a leftover "JC Bass" signature decal from a kit build I did that I slapped on there (because I hate blank headstocks), along with a decal on the back of the headstock that has a serial number for security purposes. Then cleared over the top of the headstock completely to seal in the decals. I had some different style knobs laying around that I put on there as well. It's fun, and like I said, kind of a novelty, but for less than $60 it's a great playing little thing.

One important thing that I did to my own Rocktile little bass pet was a 2 euro thing that solved a big, annoying issue: often, while playing, the E string touches the pickup poles and gives the "clack" noise! So, I ordered a chinese couple of blind pickup covers. Issue ended. 😇
