$2K: Which would you buy?

The Ric is unique in the group mentioned, and sounds/looks great on all the reviews I've seen. Its also probably the only one that will hold or even increase in value, deservedly or not. If you change your mind you can flip it and lose nothing.

I would keep saving (hide the money I’m an envelope under your mattress-no one ever thinks to look there) until you are absolutely sure. If it were me I would be happier with no new bass than the wrong new bass.

Voted for the Sandberg VM5. I've never touched a Sandberg, so I don't really have anything to base my vote on, but everything I've seen from them has looked like quality stuff, and sounded just a nice (via YT).

Between a Rev-P/MM Sandberg in some cool color, and a J/J Geddy in only black or 3tSB, I'd rather have the Sandberg.
Just my not-so-heavy opinion. Best of luck, and keep us posted.

First off, your opinion is more important than any of ours. Personally, I would not spend $2K for any bass, but that's just me. I've got $1K in my 6 string I built and that pushed my limits. Every bass I've had was bought used for a pretty reasonable amount. I bought my Alembic Spoiler for $200 with the case. So when it comes to polls for all the GAS or NBD posts I see on here for high dollar basses, I would vote Carrots. If you can afford to spend $2k or more, I say more power to you and just get the one you like best.

The only bass I've paid 2k for was my 1985 Rickenbacker 4003, totally worth it! Though the only other bass I would be tempted to pay that much for is the Sandberg, those basses sound amazing!

I voted for the Sadowsky, I’m sure the Ric 5 is a great bass, but it kinda looks like it was styled by Picasso.

Know this won't help you chose, but for that amount of money I'd personally probably get a "budget" custom made.

Perhaps using Warmoth parts, with a baritone neck for a 5 string sub short scale bass with 2 series wired "clean and clear" Big J-Blade Nordstrand pickups.

Go for the VM5. I always digged the Sandberg VM series. Would love to try one. Heard one live on several occasions and it sounded really deep and articulate. Always sounded great.

Considering it's the route I'm going to take, for $2k you can get a custom built Maruszczyk. Though I would bet shipping it overseas might add a little to the cost.

That aside, Ric 5. Though they're MUCH pricier over here in Europe than 2k.
