I’m in lust with Sandberg VM basses just like you are, Doc. I’d love to have one.

But I do say “lust” on purpose. I have a sense that a Sandberg might be a fling for me until I focus on something else.

On the other hand, a guy can make a lifetime commitment to a Sadowsky and never look back.

What happened to practice being the cure for GAS? :smug:

But since you asked- I’ve been considering a Jazz to compliment my Precision. So I’d probably want to play with the Geddy for a while and see if it’s a good fit. I’ve also heard nothing but good things about the Sires, but IDK if I’d gel with the active EQ. Curious about the vintnera 70s necks as well.

but in all honesty I’ll probably be getting a Squier or MIM Fender and putting the rest of my money into my amp.

You’re a lucky man to be asking such questions, and I hope you know that! ;)

I am more profligate than lucky.

The GL is $1650. I would go with that. All listed seem to be good choices based on TB dialogue. I have first hand experience with none of them. You may end up having to try them all! I have to agree with those who say $2K is prob beyond my allowable limit. I have bought some AMAZING basses sub $1K in the used market.

If I look at the list thinking of me I vote none of the options.

If I look at it thinking of you, then the GL you’re already paying off or the Rickenbacker you seem to still to have some GAS for. The metro express Sadowsky is out ImO because it’s the “affordable” line, and at $2000 that’s entirely too much money to spend and have the companies second tier bass with , therefore, built in GAS for the “real thing”.

I voted for the Ric5. You have Jazz Bass and the fretless covered. Sometimes it is nice to return to where we started. And those Rics just look cool .

I am surprised you did not say Sadowsky. The Ric and Sandberg are really cool basses. The Ric is unique and the Sandberg is super versatile like a Lakland 55-02/55-94. Sadowsky is great but my Jazzes cover very similar ground already, but the Sadowsky is a very nice take on the Jazz Bass concept.

Budget Sadowsky don’t feel budget but I see where you are coming from.
