2K..I don't know about all that retail noise. And putting something on a card with a long term payoff..F that! I picked up this PB5 for about 650 about 2 yrs back and I'm quite satisfied.

My eldest will be in college this Fall. No matter how much GAS I have, after this bass, extra money will be for travel and college expenses.
Roger that. But isn't there at least a possibility of taking some paid non-church gigs someday (or paid church ones, I guess), and having that gig money pay for new shiny objects occasionally? That's SOP for many musicians I know.

Only the Chris Bangle era ones. The rest of them just have their plastic stuff curl or crumble.

That aside, why isn't Dingwall in the poll? I'm sure I must've missed one of your videos where you tested one of those...
I only played a Combustion once and I was not blown away. I would love to try an NG2 or some of the Dingwall three pickup basses.

For 2k, I’d buy a used Musicman Stingray 5 here off talkbass- (I’m not sure if 5’s are your favorites or not) & pocket the rest. I own several higher end basses- A Modulus Quantum 5, Curbow Petite, Roscoe... & my Stingray 5 is still my go-to bass for just about everything, the SR5’s are amazing, especially for the prices.

I used to be a huge Stingray fan and I still am. A Stingray would make a great final bass.

Fender USA Geddy Lee Jazz. Hands down. There is no runner up. After DECADES of different basses, this is my "the one" bass. For what it is worth, I am not really a fanboy of Geddy's. He's a KILLER bass player. ...but that's him. Not me. I gave this bass a shot just because of the feature set. One note. That's all I needed. It's been 3 years now. I still feel the same way. I just have one bass and no real desire to get another. I get the worry sometimes that I need a backup. ...but, honestly, I don't. I watch that bass like a hawk and I am never anywhere with it that would put it in danger of being damaged. ...other than transporting by car. I could see MAYBE getting the MIM Geddy just to have an -ish backup. YMMV though. I wouldn't pretend for a minute that what worked so perfect for me would do the same for anyone else.

I will finally get my Fender US Geddy Lee out around Christmas or New Year. The problem is that it has taken me so long to get it, I am not that excited about it anymore (that could easily change when it actually does come home.) I am thinking about letting it go for something a bit more expensive or maybe even something cheaper. This is not a serious poll. I just want to know what some of you think.
none of the above..I would go for this Elrick jazz bass....................Invalid Link Removed

I will take it home around the holidays. It will be wonderful if I fall in love and decide to keep it.

if this is gonna be the last Big Bass Expense for a while, I'd go with the Sadowsky. Super versatile, quality instrument and very safe choice in terms of brand reputation and longterm resale value.

Any Fender, I love them and everything, but I'd pick up a used one that feels good when you play it when you bump into one, plenty of those around at any price level, with or without a kid in college. :)

I am definitely on the Sandberg train. I played one at NAMM and really enjoyed it. I ordered a VS and I had buyers remorse at first. Just didn't know if my limited experience with them and not really exploring the tonal options (NAMM is Loud) would justify the amount of dough I dropped. However while I was waiting for my build, I was able to acquire a California Grand Dark TM4. It's seriously the best overall bass I have had the pleasure of playing. My experience is pretty limited, admittedly; I've never played a Sadowsky for example, but I've owned several US fenders and a US Lakland. My Sandberg is head and shoulders above the Fenders, and though I like playing the Sandberg better than my Lakland, the quality on the Lakland is hard to surpass. I know expereinces vary on them, but mine has been good. I even like the Darkglass preamp, and I have been religiously a passive pickup guy.

I was keen on buying a Sadowsky for a long time, right up until a few months ago when I went to New York and played a couple. Nice instruments, but not for me personally.

And I don't play fivers, but I did like the new Rickenbacker 4003S5 a lot! Too bad they don't make a 4-string version... You might want to grab one while you still can - they seem to be discontinued now? :)
