$2K: Which would you buy?

After I got my first Sadowsky jazz (Metro WL 4), I never had gas for a jazz bass again. I tried to, but it never came and that’s saying a lot for me. Still own and love it after almost 5 years. It punches all the right buttons for me.

Based purely on the sounds they make (have not played either personally):

Tie between the Sandberg and the Sadowsky. It would be a tough battle to determine if I was more in love with the j bass sound versus the endearing set of sounds from the Sandberg.

If I had 2k free right now I'd be calling Kiesel - today - and getting my fretless five Vader built. Out of your choices, I'd save some cash and go get one of the OG Geddy CIJ builds. Those are superb basses. And they just don't only do Geddy tone, great as that can be. I would also seriously give some thought to the Sadowsky.

None of these. For around 2k, I'd buy a Christopher 3xx series, or a nice Strunal. Probably the first of these, because the shop who sells them is far better in setting things up than the shop who sells the others.

I know nothing about either of the basses you mentioned.

They're upright, or depending who you talk to, double basses...

But my vote... I'd get another Lakland

I'd get the bass that has the least in common with what's already in your herd - my aim is to have a fair amount of diversity in a relatively small number of basses - if 2 basses cover the same territory, one gets donated.

I will finally get my Fender US Geddy Lee out around Christmas or New Year. The problem is that it has taken me so long to get it, I am not that excited about it anymore (that could easily change when it actually does come home.) I am thinking about letting it go for something a bit more expensive or maybe even something cheaper. This is not a serious poll. I just want to know what some of you think.

Of your choices, I'd definitely go with the Sandberg, though the nut is too narrow for my liking.

If it were my 2k, Lowdown Bass would be making me a 5 string, 35" string P-bass with shallow neck and 1.875 nut.

True! I think you are right, until I buy a Sadowsky, I will keep going back to it.

Selling the Geddy and another nice bass for the Sadowsky makes the most sense. It would be much easier to trade the Geddy for a Ric or Sandberg though.
