2x10" vs 1x12" bass combo amp

Most of the generalizations about 10 versus 12 versus 15 are buried in a few decades worth of obsolete information. There are now cabs with 8 inch speakers that will go lower than 12” cabs. With cheaper cabs, the old wisdom tends to hold up but with newer properly designed cabs you really have to look at the individual cab and speaker unit as a whole and compare that to other implementations that you’re interested in.

If you had two combos both with Eminence deltalite IIs (just as an example), the 210 combo would handle twice the power thermally and probably mechanically, but since there are TS specs that can be tweeked to work best for a particular design, that's a generalization too. It's still all in the implementation.

Are you being snarky? Don't be snarky. Just be kind and clear and straightforward. I've been a full-time music maker for 20+ years and my experience is that big speakers are bassy and sluggish, smaller speakers are punchy-er.

Snarkiness aside, sometimes the reasons why are too lengthy and it can be easier to cut right to the chase and state the conclusion.

The old generalities such as 10s are faster has been disproven time and time again. Old generalities are just that. Old generalities. The current wisdom is that driver size is not the overriding criteria to determine tone anymore.

I’d say the quick answer is progress and modern engineering being the reasons why.
