2x15" cabs

That raises another question. Won't the problem be more than
just a "Ka-bump"? Dragging the split-rail cab against a hard
corner (like a stage edge or tailgate) will result in that corner
scraping the cab covering (tolex, vinyl, rat fur, whatever)
between the rail gaps. Eventually, it will wear or tear.

Nice photoshop - eventually, someone will claim that it's a real photo, though...

I can say that even after a couple years of steady gigging, the back of my PH810 still looks like this:

[i.e., undamaged in photo]

Glad it's surviving well.

The fact that the rail gap is right at the level of the connections plate is even more intriguing -- suggesting intention of some kind... maybe?

[Edit: Never mind, I see it's only on that particular model.]

Yeah, the plate/rail gap orientation is different between Mesa's 810 and 215 - although the control plate is well recessed on both... I don't think there is an actual purpose for the rail gap, but it also hasn't caused me any problems, either - and I also had a well used PH610 that was the same, that I gigged the crap out of for a few years before selling it...

I think it comes down to taste.

Plus, it really depends which specific 2x15 model one is talking about. Both Mesa and Sunn have made more than one model of 2x15 cab.

Agreed regarding taste - purely subjective, without question... but I've played all those old Sunn 215s and all of Mesa's 215s at different times, and IMO the Sunn cabs weren't anything all that special, other than having "Sunn" on them... IMO/IME, 215s by Mesa, Berg, SWR, and even some Peaveys were all better cabs than those old Sunn cabs people like to romanticise - in other words, the "good old days" weren't all that good, regarding gear vs what's been available in the last 20 years or so...

Well, as I play one of those old Sunn cabs, we have a difference of opinion on how good they are.

Though, I daresay that the newer Mesa cabs are probably easier to move than a massive 2000S cab, so they do have the advantage of convenience.

Interestingly, I've never played a single thing from SWR, head, cab, combo, whatever, that I've liked.

Agree to disagree on the Sunn cabs...

Regarding SWR: I've never liked their amps, but have liked all their pro grade cabs I've ever played - ironicaly, it's exactly the opposite with me and G-K products...

what the? Why is the jack plate in the most inconvenient place?
It's hard enough to reach the Player Control Network switch as it is. But right in the middle, well you will have to take you bass off, turn down the volume so it doesnt feedback etc etc.

ps Player Control Network always makes me think of Ice Cube doing a sequel to Players Club. Oh right, that movie was awful.

I had a mesa 2x15, bought a used Berg 2x15, sold the mesa. For me through my rig the berg did a better job. Not knocking the mesa. I really think that it depends on your amp and your ear. The mesa with my demeter/crest ca9 set up killed.

71svt and the berg just seems a better match for me.

As well as a crap load of others...Sunn, Ampegs, Acoustic, Peavey, Fender etc. Why arent more in production? Smaller and lighter is the trend I guess. while custom cabs can achieve this the price is high! I need to get my hands on a used 215 to match with my v4b
