2x15" cabs

That's pretty funny - truth is, in the years I've owned it, it's probably only been in my house a few days - the rest of the time it's been on stages, or in the truck with the rest of my band's gigging backline...

Sorry I know I was being a douche....I just couldn't help myself. :p

I'd miss the full length rails on a cab like that though. I use the ones on my SVT box all the time tipping it in and out of the hatchback. Then again if you're moving these things in a truck with a power gate as god intended the segmented rail wouldn't be an issue.

Do the TL cabinets count? I believe the TL606 design is the foundation for the EV B215M and Mesa cabs, and possibly others. When my TL606 2x15 had EVs in it, you couldn't tell the difference in sound between it and the Mesa Diesel and Road Ready cabs...

I was looking at those cabs - From what I have read they are particle board? Lots of people complaining that the wood will chip away when picking at it with your fingers once you get through the tolex. Id stay away from that option

The Markbass, yes, mine is made from a very-cheap flakeboard-type material.

I’m sure that’s a big part of the light-weight of the cab, but using it on the baffleboard of a 215 (drivers mounted with simple wood screws) was not very good. I had to make a new baffleboard with plywood.

what the? Why is the jack plate in the most inconvenient place?
It's hard enough to reach the Player Control Network switch as it is. But right in the middle, well you will have to take you bass off, turn down the volume so it doesnt feedback etc etc.

ps Player Control Network always makes me think of Ice Cube doing a sequel to Players Club. Oh right, that movie was awful.

I don't know, it really hasn't been a problem at all - although I pretty much set it where it's shown in the pic, and leave it there... Truthfully, I could afford any cab I want, and the PH810 has been the best cab I've ever played thru for my current gigging situation...

You don't really have to use such cheap material to get a light cab...depending on the wood you can do a great 215 cab between 55-65 lbs with good ol' plywood :)

No prob - I wasn't too worried about it... I realize the potential for the gap in the glide rails to cause trouble, but it just hasn't been an issue - and no power gate on our backline truck, either... Both my current Mesa cabs came with their covers, and even though I've put around 150 gigs on my PH810, it still looks practically new... I could easily replace the rails with something full length, but there isn't a need to do so at the moment...

Hey guys, thanks for all the info!
Since I have a couple of Berg cabs and I really love 'em I think I would the buy the NV215 if they would still make it.
However, they don't, so of all the cabs mentioned the 2 cabs that interest me the most are the Dually and the Mesa, BUT ...
I'm also gassing (and probably buying in the new year :D ) for a Bassman 100T amp. Does anyone know if the Dually can be made with the exact same cover to match the Bassman?
I know, I'm a sucker for aesthetics, sorry

Well...greenboy cabs are made by custom builders...could prolly work something out :)

.....were all better cabs than those old Sunn cabs people like to romanticise - in other words, the "good old days" weren't all that good, regarding gear vs what's been available in the last 20 years or so...

How can anyone criticize an OEM Sunn 200S or 2000S cabinet? Guess you don't care for the JBL D-140 tone?
I can understand not caring for the Sunn 215S(M) with the vertical port that made them somewhat directional but I guess we were all wrong. :bawl: I'll ditch my 1968 Fender showman head too.:atoz:
:hyper: anyone need a pair of OEM Sunn 200S cabinets?
I need to MODERNIZE:p

:help: Me to define sarcasm.;)

What can I say - IMO, the gear made today is head and shoulders above the gear of yesterday... I took issue with the statement that an old Sunn 215 "can't be beat" - to support my case, I'll offer up this:

IMAG0447.jpg

If you think that your Fender Showman/200S rig can keep up with the above pictured rig in terms of volume, low end, clarity in a mix, and durability/reliability, you're mistaken - it's that simple... I realize that Sunn has it's fanboys - and I certainly could be called a Mesa fanboy - and tonal preferences aside, there is no denying that today's bass amp gear is better made, more reliable, and outperforms the gear of the past... I've been gigging for over 30 years - so, I remember playing thru alot of that old stuff, fwiw...

Hello georgestrings,
The statement "that an old Sunn 215 "can't be beat" was certainly NOT mentioned by me. My memory is poor just not THAT poor. If you enjoy your Mesa gear, good for you. I did not mean to ruffle your feathers so to speak. I have played for a few weeks myself.:) Some of us do enjoy vintage equipment and have never had any problems with it. My 1973 Sunn Model T (4 x 6550A) clocked @ 176 watts R.M.S. into a 4 Ω load. Atop an OEM Sunn 200S with 2 D-140's it's plenty loud. :bassist: I use my 1968 Showman For quieter venues. I will not engage in a contest over equipment capabilities against a fellow member. I got my teflon jacket on now.:ninja::hiding:

Peace and Happiness to all
