2x15

I'll just leave this here. FTW........

I have downsized to a pair of 112's, but if I had to have 15's I'd get a pair of 115's - and prolly Mesa Subways....for the obvious reasons of a modular setup - one cab for small gigs / two cabs for bigger gigs AND another good reason is you can aim one at the drummer (bottom cab) and the other facing straight ahead when using the pair.

I'm convinced Andy must have used quantum physics to conjure up a 60-pound Subway 215 bin. Back in the day, 215's were very common, and I once had a 215 Yamaha bass bin with this huge scoop . . . . . and it weighed 135 pounds, and that was a common weight for them back then.

I too would prefer a pair of single 15's as it would be easier to move, two smaller boxes instead of one big one.

Or would a 1x15 stacked on top of another 1x15 get the same sound as a 2x15.

I run 2 single 15s for bigger venues and it’s just great.

4x10 for smaller venues.

Have really not found a single 15 to be good for much save band practice; it just feels like I’m hitting it too hard even at smaller venues. If you don’t play with a volume crazed guitar player and drummer like I do you might do ok with one.

But if you get a reflex or scooped single 15" you'd be getting lots of volume and subsonic wallop while defeating the portability point of a single 15". Behold the mighty Peavey 15SC. It seems very full range, responsive, punchy and loud with a nice subsonic kick. Not portable:

hello
I was wondering what the best 2x15 cabinet on the market is. Or would a 1x15 stacked on top of another 1x15 get the same sound as a 2x15.
Unless you are spending big for some of the latest and greatest small 115’s moving a 215 would be simpler, especially if it had casters. I’ve got a couple of 126 cabs but i can carry one in each hand when I need both. I used a Peavey 215 forever and with casters the only lifting is in and out of your transport and up and down stairs. I also had an appliance hand truck for when i needed to go up and down stairs so it was much easier to schlep than the 410 i eventually replaced it with.

Best 215 ever is Electrovoice B2150m

That was a sweet cab all right. I also liked the Mesa RoadReady cabs, not coincidentally also loaded with EVMs.

Not sure I would go with a 2-15 today over a pair of 1-15s simply because of portability and flexibility. Is Bag End still around? Their S15 cabs go for peanuts second hand and sound great.

I've had a bunch of 15s and 2x15s and they get the same job done. Currently have 2 Fender Bassman Neo 15s and they are probably the best out of the bunch that I've had! Fender Rumble 15s are cheaper, lighter and only sound a little less defined but without having something to directly compare them too they are very good in their own right and down right amazing for how little they cost, they served me well for several years and I was thrilled with them.
I've had others but those stand out as the better of the 15s I've had. I tried to get along with a Mesa Roadready which just seemed to always be at he point of wanting to fart and a really great cool Greenboy clone that was gigantic and definitely not made out of a flat pack, it was more like an 84 lumber edition, sounded good, just was entirely wrong dimensions super wide and deep with a long throw tweeter. Sold it to a friend who uses it as the house bass cab in his studio, so nobody has to move that monster again!

I don’t play metal. I have always loved my stacked Berg NV115’s. When stacked, I get sound reinforcement where I want it ( near ear and full body! ), 2x 6” midrange, no stinking tweeters, and all my basses including my NS CR5M sound great thru them. A little heavy, not enough for large outdoor gigs, and discontinued? Yes.

Bucket list will be a Bamp with the 2xnv115 profile. But a Thunderfunk TB 550 or a Mesa 8-88 make them purr too. And if you are eventually going to gig, I think 2x115 anything is more-flexible and more-luggable than a 1x215.

Good luck with your quest!
