You know, you could get a lot info just of that link and uncle Google. And yes, that would be a 3/4. It is a general way to tell the overall size of the instrument.
I thought it was a bass you could only play waltzes on?
Take it right back because you got scammed.
You've only got 3/4's of a bass.

If Googling is the quick-fix answer to all our queries or interests, then a forum like this could soon be become irrelevant imho.

People gave you a hard time because you're not the first guy to get on here and ask this question. These guys just want to keep the level of the discussion up, to make this a forum for stuff that's not on Google (until somebody posts and it gets indexed by Google). Lurk for a while, you'll roll your eyes when somebody asks your question again. It will happen.
I understand where you're coming from Paul. Thanks.
However am I to assume that before anyone posts a question on this forum, he/she should first consult Google to see whether it has been covered there or not ? If that is so, it would really deter people from posting here for fear of getting showered with sarcasm don't you think ?
...As a newbie to the forum I have now googled my original question and found some informative explanation/s for my query which is not covered in the FAQ's you suggested.
Actually, the wiki covers this in a rather comprehensive fashion. Chris has treated the issue rather nicely. If you hang around here, and I hope you will, you'll see that there are quite a few questions that seem to get asked over and over again. That's the main reason many of us got together and contributed to the wiki.
The search function here works quite well and, yes, a new member really should use it first before posting a question. That helps in at least two ways. It avails the new member of a wealth of knowledge very quickly and allows new information regarding recurrent topics to be added to those old threads rather than being scattered across many threads on the same topic. One of the ironies we encounter is that a new member will often ask a common question rather than using the search so that he/she can get the information faster. In actuality, it's the other way around. A minute or two with the search function will often yield comprehensive and detailed posts very quickly-- faster than members could respond with it all again.
You will find friendly, knowledgeable people here who are most generous with their time. Please peruse the existing threads so that you can get a sense of what's here already.

Thanks a lot. I certainly will.
It's only a joke, mind you. I don't think anyone here is out to get you because of a fumble in bass terminology.
Welcome.
