$340.50 Rickenfaker? (Made in China content)

What a cheap POS made in China. The spec photos were shot outside their warehouse on the sidewalk . You can even see the guys reflection in a few.
yeah that really makes me want to rush out and buy one.
I bet the paint is lead based to add insult to injury

If Rickenbacker were smart, they would do the same thing Hofner did with the Icon - license the Rick name to these cheap chinese clones and corner the market for those who don't want to pay for the real thing, but will feel better seeing a Rickenbacker logo on it.

Just like with the real Hofners, the market will not be hurt for those who can tell the difference and actually care - those people will still fork over for the real thing. But they will get added revenue for those who just want a cheap bass that looks like a Rick and has the logo - just like those who buy the chinese-made Hofner Icon.

^Proof that RIC is smarter than you!

I don't have a problem with how the pictures were taken (although you're right, a more reputable company would care enough about how their product was presented to at least put it on a stand and hang a blanket up behind it). The biggest red flag for me was the fact that they couldn't even drill the tuner holes so that the tuner base wouldn't hang over the edge of the guitar.

One thing is for sure... you will be HOT in your picture rigs with this bass... and among the smog machine and the stage lights no one will tell the difference... who knows, maybe you will be on the next bass player magazine cover with your beloved rick... who cares how it sounds? just think in all these chicks to come...

They do what is best for the corporation ... but not what is best for the customer.

...and so far it's served Rickenbacker well, as well as their employees. I'd call that a quality organization.

Many...most, if not all...corporations do what is best for them, including shutting down MIA operations, outsourcing to the cheapest bidder, & riding the good name of the company...often built through decades of quality work...into the ground. For 1 reason, & 1 reason only: short term profits, making a few rich, & screw everyone else...including customers, who expect the same quality product they've had in the past. Only it doesn't happen. If that's what you call "best for the customer" then you can keep it... !:spit:

Give me a known quantity like Rickenbacker any day...

...and they should keep their POS Chinese knock-offs in China...

?????

Not sure why the hate. Fender makes the Squire line, yet they continue to sell the heck out of their USA basses as well. I don't think anyone who has a USA Fender bass feels like their USA bass is "polluted" by the Squires.

Not saying that the chinese should illegally make these crappy knockoffs in violation of patents - just wondering aloud why Rick doesn't make their own "budget line".

Also wondering why the mere suggestion gets everyone so bent.....

Because they don't have to.

1/2-off top

The Czechs also make counterfeiting:

(I do not have any information about these basses, but the one that is on the site. At Talkbass already discussed this company.)

While some parts of those basses are directly copied from Rickenbacker, there are also substantial differences, and they don't try to pass themselves off as actual Rickenbackers.

Hmm...
What if....
If we could get enough people to chip in, say $25.....somebody could buy one, and we could test it and maybe pass it along or even a random drawing after letting a respected member give it a spin.
?? I'd go $25.

I was in the local shop last week talking with a couple of guys and the subject of one of these counterfeits came up. The guy who worked in the shop said that one of the Les Pauls came thru, and it was amazing how much it looked like the real thing. He said that he had seen several of them, and that one of the ways to tell if it was fake was that the serial number is usually stamped much deeper on the fakes than the real thing. Other than that, he said it was dead on and not really that bad of an instrument.

There's a million and one ways to tell these are fake, nobody is being fooled it's just a matter of wether or not you care.
