$340.50 Rickenfaker? (Made in China content)

I sent my buddy the pics and he said he can't wait to get it.He said he has big plans. That proves there were crack babies in the 50's and 60's.

I remember when Ric would void the warranty if you used round wound strings because of the neck stress.I think they used to come with flats.Thats why they changed the neck to pickup from 1/2" to 1" so it would handle the Lbs per square inch.Even some of the hard core Ric guys will tell you if you have a choice get the 4003 and thats because you won't know if your buying a problem bass.I owned one that had the bridge pull up problem and the neck was pulling up.They are great basses but you have to be careful when your buying a 4001.I remember hearing Chris Squire on "Roundabout" and said I have to have that sound.John Entwistle on "Live at leeds" Those two guys are why I still use Rotosound Swingbass strings to this day.

I was not sure about this thats what I was told by a former Ric employee at a NAMM show.I know that I have ran across quite a few in the past where the neck thru in the back was cracking and the 4003's don't seem to have that problem.I mean no disrespect to you because I am far from knowing everything about them.I did like your website, very nice.

See, all these rickenfakers are the opposite of what I want. Give me the pickups, give me the stereo output, give me the sound but keep the body and neck style. If I could afford a ric I would buy one. seeing as I can't, wouldnt be easier to cop the sound in a different body style than the body style with a crappy sound?

Answer me this, would you rather have a little brand new china Ric to goof around with as a project for $300 or a Authentic Ric sharkfin used for $300.

Is that a trick question?

Oh, and please re-post your fakenrick picture.

And this was just stinkin' hilarious!

aarrgh-reading this post makes me cry to have my old 1969 Ric back. It was a beautiful very deep purple with the most exquisite binding. Don't remember if the purple had any special name. Have they even made dark purple since then? sheet------I want it back---wahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh:crying:

China Ric.Bridge is very stable with 5 allen screw feet to keep in place.Intonation very good, low action, sound is pretty good but could use new pickups, overall pretty solid and can't spot many flaws, descent finish, joints match up well, basic passive electronics, the neck joint is done like a Les Paul.Overall for $300.00 bucks a very playable and fun instrument.Note: the bridge is much more intonation friendly than the real thing with much more adjustment options. The feal is very similar, just a little lighter.P.S.Check out my granddaughters Flying V

...which, taking into account purchase price, shipping, import taxes, replacement hardware and fettling will have cost me about as much as a used Les Paul Special or Studio.

And unlike a secondhand Special or Studio, it'll still be a fake, and will have bugger-all resale value.

The expression "polishing a turd" comes to mind. It was an interesting exercise - but not one I'd either repeat or recommend. If the real thing is out of reach, much better in my opinion to look for a decent quality "inspired by" Japanese axe from the 1970s or '80s.

Adrian :)

I can dig it and these are the reasons I wouldn't buy a Chinese 4 string Ric. BUT the minute the Beijing bunch offer a Rickenfaker in 5 string or even better, a 6 string, I'll be all over it like stink on poo!

No shipping cost,no tax, price $320.00 total, minimal setup, plays and sound pretty good, all parts available right here in the US and had 5 offers of $500.00 for it.I don't see the down side.Sorry
