I have never noticed any "suffering" going on with my G or D string on my 36" scale Elrick. Maybe I'm just used to it, but it gets the nod in the studio over a lot of other good basses & if it sounded weird I can't imagine that happening.
I am definitely not saying that it would sound "weird" just really wondering if there is a compromise there. Over the years I have heard many people here on talkbass say that the longer the scale, the less musical the higher pitched strings are. I have never done a side by side comparison. Matter of fact, I don't even think I have ever played a 36" scale bass. It does seem to make some sense though.
