There are players and there are collectors. The best instruments end up in the hands of great players. The most expensive instruments end up in the hands of collectors. There is overlap, and there are exceptions.

Just keep in mind a bass is worth whatever a buyer is willing to pay for it. While it may be worth it for that purchaser to pay almost $400, he’d better be real happy with his purchase because he’s going to be hanging onto it for a while if he’s expecting to get his money back out of it.
