Very good point. What if the great players are the reasons those instruments are the best, and the collectors’ money is the reason the others are the most expensive? There are players and there are collectors. The best instruments end up in the hands of great players. The most expensive instruments end up in the hands of collectors. There is overlap, and there are exceptions.
That Dusty Hill pre-ownership does (rightly) add a lil bit of provenance and value to it! Imagine what Chris Squire’s Rickenbacker, Sir Paul’s Hofner, and Geddy Lee and Jaco’s Jazz will go for some day!
I wonder if that included shipping? It's so expensive these days...
If someone has the money and like to have it, ok.
I’d like to know about that bass. I think DH had dozens or even hundred of basses. Is that "just some ’53 PB” , or has it really that history: bought from a pawn shop for 70 USD.
You would be wrong. Clearly Dusty Hill's bass lol
I can think of a couple others
Jamerson original 1961 P bass
Paul McCartneys original hofner bass
Geddy's #1 jazz
Chris Squires 1999RM
There are collectors that would pay money we struggle to fathom
