3Leaf Audio Club - Episode 2

Thanks! Based on multiple A-B listens to these clips, it's definitely a taste thing, but the Octabvre seems generally "punchier" and the BOD "flabbier," especially with Girth.

I'm recalling that the BOD Growl supposedly mimics the OC-2. So it seems like the Octabvre and BOD essentially meet in the middle at the OC-2, with the BOD going boomier with Girth and the Octabvre going grittier with the Mutron.

I agree the OC-2 is the classic/standard/"OG," which is why I'm all over the Octabvre especially with Spencer's reported tone improvement tweaks and the Sub option.

I hear it as the Octabvre being more clear with a bit of sparkle coming through from the dry side, and the BOD being more muted up top on the dry side and having more midrange in the octave. My preference settings are more to the Growl side, and less on the Girth side. The Girth knob gets out of hand quickly.

The tracking is the surprise to me. The BOD works out better for my technique and bass. I've been a long time advocate for the tracking abilities of the BOD, while other users have reported that it tracks very poorly. The moral of the story here is that octave pedals, analog ones in particular, seem to be very user/gear specific in terms of their tracking ability.

I'm going to try the Octabvre at rehearsal again on Monday night. The tone is enough of an improvement that I want it to work in spite of the tracking difference for me.

The BOD is marketed for its tracking, supposedly able to go well below the low A. But I always wondered what's the big deal about going that low (even lower than the low B string, which is already pretty obnoxiously low). My OC-2 holds the A, but farts out below that, which is plenty low enough for me to prove any point I want to make as a bassist.

I rarely dip below B when using an octave pedal. There's a noticeable difference in the way these two track in all ranges, not just the low ones.

Interestingly enough, the way they glitch is quite different as well. The Octabvre glitches in a way that sort of just lets the dry signal come through and "duck" the glitching octave. The BOD just lets the glitch happen. In most cases I'd prefer the Octabvre method, but we have a song in our set where I intentionally get the BOD to glitch. I hit a C at the eighth fret of the E string, then hit 9th fret harmonics on the D and G strings to force glitching. The Octabvre doesn't really work for this, but that's a pretty exceptional situation.

I thought I cured from GAS for good (who am I kidding), but it looks like I had a weak week (ha-ha) and ordered an Octabvre, Enabler and Little Black Box (the prototype Spencer put on FB) last week. The Octabvre and Little Black Box will will join my Wonderlove on my main effects board. The Enabler goes on the 'rehearsal' board. I had an Enabler earlier that I - stupidly - sold, and after hearing they were discontinued, I knew I had to had one again. I was lucky to find one. Now the wait (since I'm in Belgium shipping is a little slower. I just hope they get here before the holiday madness at the postal service).

Silky, I'm a current BOD user too. My Octabvre arrived today and I haphazardly put it on my board (God, I need a cable kit). Looking forward to hearing it through my gigging rig and at volume. I only had some time earlier to test everything through my dinky practice amp. Pysched to hear it in a mix.

Well I just finished a long rehearsal for a Christmas performance. I was able to use the Octabvre with good luck on one song...used both side of the pedal. The sub side makes this pedal a keeper.

I to have the BOD and I see good things to have both on the board....3 different settings in 2 pedals. Perfect!

Now I need a true bypass looper pedal to arrange my growing board. Any suggestions? I was thinking Nose Pedals since I love cartoons.

First full volume practice with my up-dated pedal-board was tonight. I dialed in some great and wicked synthy tones with Octavbre-Doom-Proton and I must say that Octabvre stays with me. It just takes some longer time to play with controls of all three pedals to come along with "that" tone. Another thing I've noticed today while playing with controls and combinations of Octabvre, Doom, Proton and WL, that Proton surprisingly sounds fatter and more powerful with Octabvre than WL. Having said that I believe that WL is still more versatile and IMO better as stand alone envelope filter but the magic of Proton really works better paired with Octabvre and/or/both Y"Doom.

Have you tried both the effects loop and infront of the WL? I have a Octabvre and WL on the way...to go along with my Enabler, Pwnzor, LBB, Doom...

Just got my octabvre...played with it for about 10 minutes, and my Octamizer was listed in the classifieds. I had never played a Boss OC-2 so I didn't really even know what to expect, but I love it. Seems to track much better than any other octave I've had, and the tone is phat but still tight. The sub option is also really cool. As a bonus it actually fits on my board, which I wasn't sure about. In short, I don't need to look for an octave pedal anymore... :)

I have tried both ways and ended up having Octavbre, Doom and B3K in the loop of WL and Proton after all of them. And I also set the internal trigger to buffered bypass mode to allow the effects in the loop be used on their own. So I basically have two synth options on my board - with WL and all the others in the loop and all the looped pedals followed by Proton. All I need to do is just switch between WL and Proton to switch between the synth options. And sometimes if you need to push them all a bit harder you can just engage B3K with Grunt trigger set up for more growl.

Yeah, the Proton always struck me as a pedal that did one or two things really well as opposed to trying to be many things. I happen to love one of those things, so it's a permanent installation on my board. Up sweep in bandpass mode is just perfect for me.
I was also struggling on keeping the Proton for a while because of trying to justify two filters on a relatively small board. But Proton really does that "one or two" things sooo well that it is worth keeping. That being said I saw all these 3Leaf synth combinations I got to discover recently are kicking out my Akai Deep Impact from my pedalbord so it may hit the road quite soon...

Have had my Octabvre for a couple weeks now, been using it quite a bit,

I'm in love.

Properly set, the left side is a phenomenal Octaver with great tracking a killer tone. And the right side, holy moley, that's where this pedal is set apart from all the others!
The ability to jump back and forth from left, to right, to bypass is just killer!

Honestly, I haven't played with the tone knob on the right yet though, since I took it out of the box I set it all the way to the OC-2 side, and I can't get enough! It's killer.

I'm still using my WL almost exclusively with an expression pedal. The Proton takes care of most of my envelope needs (needs...heh...). Maybe that'll change when Spencer comes out with that pedal to switch from expression pedal to auto, but for now I'm getting a lot of mileage out of it with the expression and TAFM > SubT > You're Doom in the loop. Also, adding chorus and delay to this lineup makes for some really killer sounds. I don't really know how to post audio files on here, but I absolutely endorse it, and the WL with expression pedal in general.

Still no Octabvre, though. I'm sort of pretty sure that I'm done acquiring pedals for the year.
