3Leaf Audio Club - Episode 2

I've never understood why that's a common dead spot (or at least a tough one for octavers) on many basses. Can anyone explain, or point me at an explanation somewhere else if it's considered off-topic here.

Googling "deadspot 5th fret bass" will produce many hits, including TalkBass threads, on the issue of that accursed dead spot, which is reportedly a frequency cancellation effect that occurs in necks of many fender-style basses. (I was among those who tried out the "Fat Finger," the chrome clamp that adds mass to the neck, which helped the dead spot, but also altered the tone and balance of the rest of the bass in other ways that ultimately didn't work for me.)

Octavers don't track such dead spots well because of the quick decay and lack of a solid fundamental.

That sounds very interesting and very threatening at the same time.

Like many others trapped in countless versions of that "tube-like overdrive pedal?" thread, I've spent waaay too much time and money trying out variations of the low-gain, soft-clip, tube-y, "vintage," "little bit of hair," "Motown/Jamerson," etc. etc. pedal. And when I think I'm finally done taste-testing flavors of vanilla, I get sucked in again. (Just grabbed a SGFX Beta on Easter special, also keeping a close eye on the Ampeg pedal.)

This looks to me like Spencer's coming out with his take on this mainstay (or it just could be me reading too much into it). That would be "interesting and threatening" indeed -- pretty much a must-buy for me.

Yep! Same here. I've owned several different pedals, and briefly owned two different tube preamps that had fantastic overdriven tube sounds! I'm currently stuck on Source Audio's Bass OFD. It has some really useable sounds that can be colored to taste, and they're cheap on the used market. I bought one for drive and one for fuzz - two presets per pedal! I'd love to hear some 3leaf dirt!

Anyone use the Enabler to drive a power amp?

I am kind of thinking... Bass -> Octabvre -> Proton -> Enabler -> power amp - > cab. I kind of think I might like that rig. Any thoughts?

With one of the new distortions after the proton, before the Enabler when they come out!

I have from time to time, a Crown XLS power amp, not exactly a poweramp with the highest input sensitivity and it worked fine. There was enough volume on tap, at 9v no less.

I have used it right into the power amp section of a few amps, bypassing their preamp section. I'm sure it's not exactly the same thing as a separate power amp but I've had no trouble. With the gain knob, I'm pretty sure you can hit whatever the requirements are for the input. I also run Bass > board> Enabler> onto FOH or power amp or cab. It really is a great tool to have, I wish they were still being made.

Does the Enabler change your tone if it's just set flat? Like if I wanted to use it as just a DI box, but not really as a tone shaping pre-amp.
Even with its preamp on, it is still pretty transparent. If you want extreme eq settings you will want to add something to it, or turn the knobs to the extreme. It does a great job of being a foundation to build on. It's a staple on my board.

Just got a Wonderlove !
Wow ! Excellent filter pedal. Very versatile, nice subtle sound to full whacky and no huge volume boost.
Bonus : beautiful looking pedal !
The thing that surprised me the most is that it can get very wet, much more than expected after
seeing some Youtube clip.
I'll post sound clips next week showing the wetter side of the wonderful pedal.

Put an octave and fuzz in the fx loop... sounds so good. Cant wait to try with an expression pedal.

I find the "wettest" sounds from the WL come on band pass with the resonance cranked and enough clean to keep the low end.
