Nice - dig that a lot more than the brushed aluminum look. It reminds me of the hammertone blue custom MBD-2s that CME did when those first came out.

I love the Doom 2 and knew I needed to at least try the high gain modded version. I know some folks are interested to hear the differences, and although I can't record a decent demo, I can share my thoughts, for what they're worth.

The high gain Doom 2 definitely delivers as described on the tin. The low end of the gain knob can get in the realm of the synthiness of the standard version, however there is a bit more perceivable hair, and a bit less of that synthy bounce. Still quite touch sensitive, but has a bit more of an aggressive vibe, especially with the mids knob past 12:00. The gain can get quite aggressive if you want it to, and really lives up to the doom part of the name. The treble control is great at taming some of the harshness if you want to. Strong upper octave effects. I find the gain knob seems to max out the saturation somewhere between 12:00 and 1:00, and turning the knob further increases the harmonics while adding some slight compression.

The verdict: It sounds great on bass, specifically due to the implementation of the clean blend. If you want it to, it has just as much low end as the standard version, and sounds thicc with blending in only the clean lows. The voicing is inherently more aggressive, and although it isn't as synthy AS the standard Doom 2, it is still synthy as fuzzes go. Put a sub octave before it and slap some chorus on, and you still end up in synth bass land, just with a bit more scream. The mid EQ and treble filter can get you closer to the standard version, or rip your face off. It's going to take some time for me to decide if both stay, but if I was flush with cash, I would definitely keep both. I think it really depends on what you want to use it for most of the time, as there is definitely overlap.

Glad it sounds good, but what's going on with the 'r' in 'your' in the middle of the ghost finish? Did it come like that or start to peel?
And for your original D2, were you lucky with the letters not falling off or did you get an improved one?

The 'r' in 'your' came like that, no peeling so far - I think just a minor silk-screening gaff that went unnoticed and not reason to inspire doubt in the adhesion of the letting with the new finish.

As far as the original D2, I am actually the second owner and I guess I have just been lucky; so far the letters seem to be staying put.
