There's a price guide when there are active listings for a specific pedal. The price guide tells you exactly what they sold for. Unfortunately, there are no active Chromatron listings. Here's one for the Proton:

I ussually email sellers before sending any offer. If I send an offer, reverb will email every possible buyer, and somebody could send a higher offer or buy at full price. So, I email seller, make a deal and he send me an offer, I accept it and game over.

I am Bomb effects on Reverb & I can say the only reason I listed those units at those prices is because of prior high listings on Reverb which I believe were due to waves of uncertainty & insanity of the pandemic.

I listed them at prices contemporary to those around them but left it open to offers. One sold for $500 via offer & another actually sold for asking price at $900 so I can tell you now that the Reverb graph is wrong based on that alone.

Price really is whatever one is willing to pay

All this happened prior to my becoming a supporting member here. I would much rather keep trade prices down & think the only way to do so is through this community as opposed to places like Reverb.

I feel like the majority of those listed prices are people just fishing for the highest offer they can get but some will actually pay that price because they want it that bad & dont want to miss out. I myself paid a ridiculous price for my Chromatron after having previously sold one hundreds of dollars cheaper. The uncertainty of 3leaf going under coupled with the pandemic & supply chain shortages created total hysteria on the second hand market & even with 3leaf up & running again people are still trying get almost triple retail price.

I could care less about resale; people know my stance on the subject, and I'm not knocking your sales, I won't buy it, and I will suggest the same to anyone I know, but I do it my way, you do it your way kind of thing - reading this post though, your first sentence proves my point I made in another thread last week to a t

The sad thing is that sellers who list for crazy inflated prices do so (and get away with it) because there are people that are willing to pay those ridiculous prices. More power to them I guess, but I personally don't have the desire (or the disposable income) to pay 3+ times the normal price for a single pedal. Just a personal preference of course, but I'd rather not get/have one.

I refuse to sell to people on TB if they are known gougers on TB and/or Reverb. I have a nice little ignore list growing as we speak.

I'm with you on this. I had a Xerograph Deluxe that was great, but too much for my 60s-70s band. Too touchy for my purposes, too. I love Iron Ether but they don't suit my current purposes. The one Broughton pedal I'm interested in, the Joshwah, is available basically all the time for reasonable prices. I'm a little interested in a Parabellum, but I'm not super picky about dirt and my MBD2 does fine.

My wife is also picking up building pedals, so I've got an in house brand to obsess over. Exclusive, great sounding, and the price, which is being nice and appreciative, is fair.

The one Broughton pedal I'm interested in, the Joshwah, is available basically all the time for reasonable prices.

The JoshWah is a fantastic filter, just wish it could do down sweeps as well.

I'm not super picky about dirt and my MBD2 does fine.

The only dirt I’ve really liked before is the Pike Vulcan, the MBD2 and the Darkglass AO. I picked up a Parabellum a few minutes weeks ago though and that sits in my first rank.
