I was about to buy it for my collection, but the black spot on the finish kept me away. I already have one in better condition.
After trying the Vulcan I determined that it was exactly what I was looking for in a drive (basically a better sounding version of the Darkglass VMT with tighter, less farty lows). I paid over $300 when I bought my XL and it was worth it to me for the inclusion of the EQ options, and the Fat switch (which high passes the drive circuit). It ended my search for that sort of mid-rangy old school overdrive, so probably saved me money in the long run lol. I wish they were still in production.
$650 would be a bargain in comparison to this one in Japan: Pike Amplification VULCAN XL No.m298 | eBay
I picked one up in the last 18 months for about 20% of the eBay price. Crazy stuff.
Just in case anyone here has some extra units, I would like to buy :

Rather than get an alert every time someone moans about prices, I decided to check out the site and was weirded out with Spencer's update. He took the time out of his busy days to bemoan the downfall of Fulltone 8 months later and complain about the industry that he isn't even an active part of currently. This guy is something else.
maybe if he stopped glorifying ppl who make racist comments publicly and actually made pedals again…insane concept right??
Ugh, and the 'Chinesium' comment.... never been a fanboy and that's certainly not going to change now. Plenty of other builders to support.
Interesting I don't know much about him. I'll have to look further into his foolishness before I spend my dollars.
I think he does need to get back to the mountains.
Small bit of missing information on Spencer's part is that Fulltone "couldn't make a profit anymore" after a bunch of retailers dropped them for making gross comments about the George Floyd protests.
FWIW, I wouldn't be surprised if Spencer is out of the loop and doesn't know about those racist comments Mike made.
I also don't think he's really glorifying Fulltone/Mike, just recognizing his work as an influence. I'm not really sure what to make of the "Chinesium" comment though. Interested to hear others' thoughts on that.
I say this as someone who is fully anti-Fulltone. Just willing to give Spencer some grace here.
I dont think theres much to discuss in regards to Fulltone, he's made derogatory comments, some people are bigots, if you have different opinions then dont support people like him by endorsing their products.
Im not familar with Fulltone aside from the OCD but I think its been cloned so there are other options for that at least probably other pedals as well

Western companies often ask asian companies to produce goods as cheap as possible. As a result, the price is low, but the quality is reduced. Not because they can't do it, but because we, westerners, keep asking them to make it cheap.
Sure, "Chinesium" is a degrading metonymy, but it only refers to the low quality of a product made in China (as ordered by Westerners, most of the time). That's a fact.

It's in poor taste at best, but coupled with the Fulltone shout-out it's really not a good look.
Well I'm new to pedals really only owned a few MXR pedals for guitar but not nearly into the rabbit hole I've climbed into recently for Bass. (I.E. less than year) With that said if dude over at Fulltone ran his mouth and wrote a check his business could not cash so be it. As far as the comments from the Spencer if he's the type of dude who runs his mouth on things that do not align with me. I'll gladly spend my money elsewhere and inform those that I have access to and suggest they do the same. I won't make that judgement on 1 statement but life has taught me it's hard to hide your true self if you run your mouth to freely Shite always flows to the top and will seek its level.
My Ampeg V4B was made in China but the specs are actually quite good. Not perfect, not a handmade amp, but a very good industrial one at an affordable price.
