I don't know if this would be interesting to anyone but Ian Allison just put 9 octave pedals against each other in one of the most recent SBL podcasts

The 3 Leaf Octabvre MKIII was in the shootout. I do wish he'd included his MKII, but nonetheless I was pretty impressed with the MXR M280 and the Helix Stomp octaves as well. (Link goes directly to the shootout)

Cool video -- Agree would love to see the MKII/Mini as I prefer the sound of those as well. And impressed by the M280. I need to grab one of those little dudes.

we certainly found it fascinating when it was posted earlier (in post #8224) so I see no reason why we won’t find it interesting now!

Yeah, that MXR sounded great. I had the original Octabvre when it first came out and sold it--keeping the OC2. I recently picked up a Mini and it has earned the spot on my board. I don't know if it sounds different, or if in the 9 -10 years in between my tastes have changed. But, I like the front end of the note, the volume control and I've been able to work with the tone control for certain things. I picked the new Octabvre over the OC2 in the video test too, but the MXR was also really nice. I liked the OC3 and OC5, but I'm happy with my octave choice.

Also definitely think the MXR seems like a great octave especially considering the fact it doesn’t take up much space.

I think the comparison wasnt quite fair, from what I saw the mkiii tone knob was at 12 o'clock which is a 50/50 blend of the OC-2 side & the Octave Divider side & to me at least isnt a sweet spot, putting it at 9 or 3 o'clock would have been more interesting or comparing it fully counter clockwise & clockwise with the original OC-2 & Ocatve Divider.

The mkiii is a quality pedal but I agree with Ian & prefer the mkii which has a thicker, creamier quality & higher output from memory of my trial runs comparing the two

Uh someone is getting his first 3Leaf pedal today. Merry Xmas to me indeed.

Played a ton this afternoon with the newly delivered Octabvre, with my Stingray. I’m surprised by the wide options of tones, and I must say that the more sinthy Mutron side is very enjoyable. So far I really like both volumes at 12 and tone at 10 with the Tim switch downwards (off I believe). Quite mid grindy octave sound, very harmonic. It will not replace my Japanese OC2 Octaver as initially thought, it certainly gets ballpark close but not as gooey and smooth. I quite like have both options on the pedalboard. Looking forward to play lots more with pbass and acoustic. Beautiful pedal for sure, tons of tones.

This is true, but he didn’t appear to adjust knobs on any of the pedals.
Not sure how he came up with the settings he landed on for each, I have to assume that there were multiple pedals that didn’t get to demonstrate their most favorable settings.

I had the same thoughts. A good enough test for a podcast (in YouTube video format), but not good enough for a critical test if truly trying to select a favorite for a specific application.

I was surprised that the MKIII sounded the way it did in the video as it didn't align with my memory after having owned one. To me it also didn't sound like an MKI, a Tim-tuned MKI, or a Mini, all of which I've owned as well. I also never played them with a vintage Jazz wearing flatwounds, so all comparisons are likely moot anyway.

I will continue to defend the free market on these things, and the guy is doing something i cannot, props to him, but this approach baffles me. I got an email with a supposed link to something, but it just goes in a loop. The link here is working, though. I’d feel better about this if it were a blind auction with a more finite timetable, like 24 hours for all 100 pedals.
