I picked up the etched boxes from Fromel today. They turned out excellent!

spence the compressors look absolutely sick and i'm in the market for one at the moment. can it do squish? is it modelled after a particular unit?

It's my own design, not modeled after any compressor that I know of. I have a lot of experience working with rackmount studio compressors - LA-2A's, 1176's, Chandlers, API's - and I wanted something that I could use in the studio that gave me a different flavor. I actually prefer it to an 1176 on bass because the ratio control goes down to 1:1. I definitely designed it with lower ratios in mind, but it'll squash pretty hard depending on what value pot I use for the ratio control. Right now I have it set at like a 10:1 max. It's not really designed for limiting, more for envelope-shaping compression.

Good Grief!
This is the first compressor I've ever actually had G.A.S for!!!

I hear you - I've never really been pedal compressor user myself. The kind of compression I like on bass is a really low ratio (around 2:1 or 3:1) with a slow attack. It makes everything really punchy.

Oh, and the compressor will be the first pedal to use my new relay bypass system. It's quieter than a standard bypass and it uses a soft-touch switch.

Hmm. Maybe it's time to finally give a Proton a try. Those enclosures do look nice. Not sure though... my GR1/GR2 are still the king of the filter heap (for me), but it'd be nice to free up a little board space on my Pedaltrain Mini.

Curiosity question: how did you decide on THAT name for the compressor? Is there a story behind it? I don't think "Compressor" when I see it... I can't help myself from thinking "1337 kid in the basement playing Warcraft." lol

Just curious Spencer! ;)

(I was never a Warcraft player, but I'm familiar with "'leet' speak." For those who aren't, here are some Urban Dictionary links for you :p)

Some friends of mine had a band in high school called PWNZOR, and the name stuck with me. It pwns your tone!

I'm exactly with you on the low ratio. I currently use a DBX 166a rackmount, but I'm not in love with it.
