But why only a 4 and 5 if you want to play professionally and whatever you want if you play for fun? Can't a pro play a 6? Many do.
I agree that this discussion is kind if pointless, but pros play 6 strings.
You can do whatever you want. In my experience a 4 and 5 string were all I needed for any session or tour. There are pros who play 6ers, but those are more prominent in the jazz world.
I have never once in my life had an audition that required a 6 string. So im just going by my experience. Would i like to have one? sure..it would be fun.
