4 OHM CABS (help)

ok so some will know i recently brought a fender bassman 50 that is 4 ohms but im having a real hard time findind 4 ohm bass cabs that arnt basicly fridges

most of the cabs i have seen are 8 ohms and i was told that its a good idea to stick to 4 ohms

im not wanting to spend too much (£500) on a pair (prefrabaly a 1x15 as my main and a 2x10 as the extention)

so someone help me with a cheep 4 ohm cab

What ever cabinet you get it will have to be efficient. You only have 50W to play with and that barely constitutes a practice amp nowadays.

yeah i know hence why im gonna use a 1x15 as my main and the 2x10 as my extention

Without using crossovers etc, commonly mixed cabs report less than satisfactory.

If your head runs at 4 ohms, and you want to run 2 cabs, then you need 8 ohm cabs

NOT 4 OHMS

In short............

If you have a head that cannot run below 4 ohms, if you use a 4 ohm cab - you can only use that one cab.

Connecting another 4 ohm cab will drop your ohm load to 2 ohms, and kill the head.

If you are going to run 2 cabs, and a 4 ohm total - then you need to run two 8 ohm cabs.

Cannot fight science.

now im gonna have to buy 3 cabs cos im only probs able to use 1 in my house but use 2 live

im not in it for the power... im in it for the tone because theres a great invention called a p.a system and mics

i think that you'd be surprised how good, big and loud a 50 watt bassman can sound with 4x15" JBL's.

Leo was a truly incredible guy. he also had a great sense of humor. we'd get to talking about technical stuff and talk for hours on end. his wife, and George Fullerton were really cool people too. Leo's wife once gave me a HUGE compliment when she said that I reminded her of Leo when he was young.

I've gigged with a Guild Thunderbass, which is said to be 60-80 Watts tube. With enough speakers you should have a competitive amount of volume, depending on how loud your band is, of course.

He has a Fender Bassman that's supposed to run a pair of 4 ohm 2x12s. That's exactly what I'd be looking for.
