4 string to 5 string project

I don't know of any luthier suppliers around my area. I am still looking though. Since I am in no real rush though, I have not searched a lot. I would like to find a blank somewhere. I always thought they were much less pricey then they are

Sand paper clamped around a drill bit makes a good nut file:

This is genius.

Ended up with about a total cost of $50 for the conversion since I had to put Wilkenson pup's in it and I had to change 1 pot.. Need to add a little color to make the nut look better, a little color on the filler below the bridge on the bottom side to make it look a little better, but she is pretty much complete and plays super cool!! I love that nut spacing.. BTW, it is 1-1/2" at the nut

Got the bow out of the neck. Nice and flat now!!! I kind of like truss rods! Got 3 of the 5 string intonated and set up, ran out of time at lunch, so tonight I will finish the set up and get back to the electronics. Maybe a dead battery or a loose wire. Should be up and playing tonight or tomorrow!!

Ran the bass through a 3 hour practice last night.. .Man that was fun to play! B string was nice and huge sounding.. A little loose, but I think that 34" scale with a super thing neck is just what it is. The bass has great even tone from the B string to the G string. No dead spots at all. Neck plays fast and easy! Super fun with that tight spacing. Kind of tricky getting to the nut with that 1-1/2" nut width, but man she plays. The neck is nice and flat with no bow or bend. Just had a blast playing it..

Why didn't you put the new tuner on the longer side of the headstock?
I had thought about it. When I marked it up on both sides, there wasn't much difference in space between either side. 2+3 was a little different, so I
went with it. This being the first time ever I have done anything like this, it was very much a learning experience. The 2+3 works good, looks kind of funky, but
after all the work and measurements, it would not have made much difference in spacing either way
