442 vs. Discumbobulator

Hey guys, I've been lurking on this forum for a while and I don't normaly have to start a new thread because the search function normaly delivers, however I need some advice regarding filters.

I've recently got really bad GAS for an envelope filter and I'm aware that there are many very wet filters and some very subtle ones. I'm after a filter that lets my natural tone come through but can still get pretty thick and juicy on the lower register.

I've rounded it down to these two filters: the Tonefactor/Mojo Hand 442 red/b.mod (soon to be labeled the Boomstick Bottom Feeder apparently :eek: ) and the EMMA Discumbobulator. My main concern with these (especially the 442) is that the sound won't be wet enough. I'm also looking at the Chunk Systems 00Funk but I've heard it has a bit of a learning curve with it.

Any advice/sound clips highly appreciated! ^_^

I have the 442 and will soon be getting the 00funk (tomorrow if higgie posted it today! :D).

I think the 442 is really nice. Definitely beats things i've had in the past (Bassballs, Qtron, Boss FT-2 and Boss T-Wah, possibly a few more.).

It isn't too wet and it isn't too subtle, very simple to use, compliments your bass tone very nicely, just perfect really.

I'll tell you what I think of the 00funk when I get it tomorrow :).

Ahhhh filters! I keep going back to my Mini Q Tron as the wettest, funkiest filter that still retains my original tone. It seems hard to find a "perfect" filter. There's always a compromise it seems.

And I'm very happy with my Disco-Bob. I haven't played another filter that retained my original tone so well...although, I haven't played the 442. It sounds just like my original bass tone, but way funkier. It can pretty funky and wet, too, but it doesn't do the ultra-wet greasiness of the Q-Tron.

I'll add I own the TF 442 Red, and find it to be a very musical filter. Not over the top wet, but it can definetly get more then wet enough to do some funky stuff. It fits well with pretty near everything I play, and interacts very well with the other pedals I own. Plus you just can't beat Brad's service.

I am very happy with my Discumbobulator. It's very good at retaining my bass signal, while still adding just enough wetness to it. However, this pedal definitely doesn't give you the Bootsy level of wetness, so don't be expecting that. It's more of a light coloration that you could almost leave on during an entire song (if it called for that). I liked using it on some of my main lines (until I got a Pigtronix EP-1 and a Moogerfooger LPF), but I also thought that it sounded better on upper register solos or fills.

Hmmm...I've done some looking around to try and find a red 442 on line, but all I can find are the blue ones...Do they still make the red (bass) version? If so, do you have to call Tone Factor directly to get one?...I'm surprised they aren't listed on the website for either Tone factor or Mojo Hand...Maybe I'm looking in the wrong place...
