442 vs. Discumbobulator

Tayste if that offer was for me, I really appreciate it...but I have been emailing back and forth with Brad, and believe we have something worked out. I'm going to order a new "Boomstick Bottom Feeder" probably later this week, and give it a go. Per Brad, the "Bottom Feeder" is the new Bass version of the 442 red.

Could you PM me how much it would be roughly please... I asked Brad to hold onto one for me, and I've been liking the sound clips I've heard... my main concern is how it reacts to playing. Do you personally find you have to dig in with yours or is it particularly sensitive?

It can be either, it's one of the only filters with more than 1 or 2 good sounds.

I have tried both of these pedals and I think the 442 (now a Boomstick Bottom Feeder) is a more usable pedal in live settings. It cuts through the mix really well. I tried a Emma and thought it sounded great on its own but when I played with a full band, it got buried in the mix.

OK, so I haven't tried the Bottom Feeder, but I've had the Discumbobulator for awhile now, and it cuts through the mix like hot knife through butter!
That was my experience with the EMMA too. And with subtle filters in general.
I love my EP-1, but the Disco BOB cut through the mix better, assuming that your clean tone cut through in the first place. I've found that it is harder to make sure that wetter filters cut through, probably because they sweep through frequencies occupied by other instruments, but I can't say for sure.
Again, Envelope filters are always a compromise.

I bought the EMMA used here on TB and liked it quite a bit. I ultimately sold it to my guitar player, but only because I wanted something wetter. I had the 442 (one of the last ones before the change to the Bottom Feeder) for about a month.
The primary difference (IMO) was that the EMMA sounded much more warm and organic and the 442 had a very spacey, more mechanical feel to it. Basically, if I wanted a filter for traditional funk tones, I'd take the EMMA. If I was looking for something more modern and/or experimental, I'd grab the 442.

I forgot about this thread. A quick update:
I've had a Boomstick Bottom Feeder (442red) for about a month now and I love it! It literally nails the sound I had in my head (clean tone but with added, juicy funk that isn't OTT).
On a side note, I think I've finished my pedal board now... I'll be posting pics in the pedalboard thread in a few days

This is true, the opposite goes for ones money supply.
My bass could be heard through the mix but the envelope sounds didn't cut through when I tried it. I think the Boomstick doesn't sweep the frequencies as wide and therefore it is more pronounced in a full band setting. That's been my experience with the two anyway. The EMMA sounded awesome on its own with headphones though. You also have to consider the band you play with (# of guitars, keyboards, and if the drummer is loud). My problem is I have a guitar player who plays very loud and uses a lot of filtering effects and a talkbox. I also have an organ/keyboard that eats up a lot of those frequencies as well. In my band setting, the 442 performed better than the EMMA it might not be the same for everyone else but that is how it unfolded in my circumstance. I also have a Maxon AF-9 that I'm trying out. I might end up keeping both with different settings.
