4x10 + 2x10...?

The concern is you don't have to have knobs set all the way up to get a full 300 or more watts. And due to the nature of tube compression and distortion, it may sound quite pleasing as you hit those high levels of output power.

Listening to the cab is the right way to do it, but in practice there are many questions posted in AMPS along the lines of "Why did I blow my 210/115 paired with my 410?” For anyone to dismiss the possibility, is poor advice.

On the other side we have people with 2000 watts available from a PA amp going into a 115 two way/three way cab that should not be fed more than 750 ;). Can't tell them any better either? :)
I don't think this is the best match up but not the most unworkable either. Your quoting post did make me see a mistake I missed in that post. Yesterday was a very long one.

It depends. Does the user understand the capability of his amp and cab?

Well, I already acquired the cabs so I'm just going to try it out at practice. I do play loud, but not obscenely loud. The guitarist in my band only uses a Vox AC30 so it's not too much to complete with.
The consensus I have gotten as that the setup is not ideal, but functional. If it turns out to be whack I'll just wait until something better comes along.

I might just find a sealed 4 ohm 4x10 since that would evenly distribute power. (Any inexpensive recommendations?) Kudos to those of you who suggested/explained that to me.
But since it is close to 2 ohm total load, would I set my amp to the 2 ohm or 4 ohm switch? Which is safer? (assuming this is a safe solution.)
