4x8 vertical in-line cab. Good idea?

If you have been in front of one of the cabs, played one, than please criticize. If you have not, than I would be happy to send one to you for a week, you pay shipping one way and then have at it. Please check out the demo videos on the Revsound FB page or do some searching. There are enough out there now and they went through extensive testing before being released. Without firsthand knowledge of a piece of gear criticism has little foundation, is not justifiable and a bit unkind. Duke and I had a long discussion re X-max quite a few years ago. You can probably find that if you care to. Driver technology has come light years from where it was in the 60s when I first began building. If you're a 15 guy you, perhaps, would not be satisfied with 8s but they do have their place and are quite formidable when properly loaded; especially this driver. David, can you discuss the math that you used to arrive at your sensitivity values on those vertical 4x8" cabinets? Perhaps I'm missing something?

The RS88T was reviewed and bench tested in Bass Gear Magazine issue 17. It is loaded with Celestion TN0820 drivers. 106.41 db/ 1 watt / 1 meter . I was asked what the cabinet would/could do and I left it up to the lab at Bass Gear to determine. You are correct that the "free air" sensitivity for the driver is 94db and I was pleased to be able to get the 106.41 through my cabinet.

Gator made a few for NAMM..... They never caught on.... I ordered a 4 space from them....

They sent the two space..... When I pointed out the mistake, they sent the 4 space.....

I've only seen one other like it....

Yes, for the RS88T (loaded with eight of the TN0820 drivers), at 1w/1m, the average sensitivity (from 200Hz to 900Hz) we measured was 106.41dB.

I did it. Might not be mine you are thinking of. They are 4x10 though.

I like MCM 2960 drivers. Pretty hefty thumper for a cheap 8. They extend well up top, and can go without a mid or tweeter. I went with mids and an l-pad. See my avatar. Sounds great, 65 pounds. 37" tall. Still moves around well, has wheels. About as loud as 2 of my 12's. Weighs more. One cab, so not as easy transporting.

Thing is, though once you start putting multiple drivers in cabs, the cubic volume "doubles"... a 4x8 isn't going to be "small" anymore; a pair of 2x10 will be easier to move and pack, generally have more displacement, and likely higher sensitivity and power handling.

Stacking speakers vertical is better than horizontal and will give you good horizontal dispersion o n the stage. However i can see that the Faital 8" speakers has an Fs of just 80hz, i think you will feel something is missing on the lowest frequencies. If you try to tune the box below speaker Fs you will usually also reduce the speaker power handling.
