Double Bass 5/8 Bass Bag options

I recently got a 5/8 upright bass and I would like to know what you think about bags for a bass that size... suggestions for snug 3/4 cases or large 1/2 size cases I see that the Gollihur 1/2 bag is soooo close the only problem I see is the total length of the bag is 68.5" and the bass is 70" (I think it might work). I would love to hear what other 5/8 players have done.

Thanks!

I just saw them the other day... I think it is about the only one out there currently and they look like nice bags but they are on the expensive side. I am going to test out the Gollihur 1/2 size bag. All the dimensions are a match but the total length is 1 1/2 inch too short and the depth is a few inches large. So I am hoping there is enough flex to accommodate the 5/8 bass. If not I will just have to pay the shipping back to Gollihur Music so it is worth the test.

I does fit the Shen 5/8 bass but it is snug across the total length and that does tighten the bag over the bridge. The Bag also just barely fits across the lower bout of the bass. That being said I can zip it up and it seems okay. You have a bass that is 5/8 I would say Depth, length & lower section just barley fit and I have a little room on the upper bout. UPDATE: Even though it is a close I am going to send it back. I am afraid that it puts too much pressure on the head stock and and bridge

Awesome! So really there is only one Maker bass bags that you can get with enough sizing options to fit the 5/8 bass is the Massina (as suggested earlier in this thread). I could not afford to do that. A lot of people just deal with a 3/4 bag. You can have some pieces of padding put at the bottom and sides of the bag to keep the bass from sliding around too much. I chose to get a bag that had sturdy canvas outside but not a lot of padding. I plan on making (because I can sew) a "coat" that will cover the body of the bass and just hang over the "shoulders" that's why I will call it a coat. Next I plan to make a "hood" for the head stock of the Bass. These things will have good padding and will not be permanenty attached the bag. So I will put on the "coat and hood" and then slip the bag over it. That's my project to do this winter. I got this bag "Protec 3/4...) . Amazon... https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002CZPZG/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_image?ie=UTF8&psc=1 . I can say that it does have much padding, is lightweight, easy to put on and seems to have very good fabric, straps and stitching. Also it is smaller than the Gollihur 3/4 bag I had before. If you like my idea I am sure there are seamstresses that might want to help you out.

This is Awesome...Thanks for taking the time for an 'in-depth' reply!
I just looked at Messina, and I agree the price is a bit steep.
I have been looking quite a bit this AM and came across these which I really like:
https://www.thomann.de/intl/roth_junius_bsb_03_3_4_gg_bass_soft_bag.htm
https://www.thomann.de/intl/gewa_prestige_bass_gig_bag_3_4.htm
Reasonably priced, but then there's shipping from the UK (What do the Brits know that we don't?)
Looks like the Protec you got from Amazon is no longer available - must be a popular choice!
Please let me know how your 'hood' and 'shoulders' project turns out!
Thanks, again!!! Dirk

Oh.... I like that gray one!! Both are nice for sure! I will give a report on my sewing project. I actually think it would be fun and effective to use some kind of fury fabric that was not too heavy. Like something that looks like sheep pelt. I keep my bass on a stand sometimes and it would help keep the dust off too.
