5 String Basses

Hi Everyone!!
I am going to be moving to Nashville in a few months and I need to pick up a 5 string. I really only have a budget of $1,300.00. Normally I am a fender guy but I wanted to see what you guys thought. I have been also looking at lakland skyline. I was also wondering about instruments that werent made in the U.S. Besides helping the U.S. economy is it really relevant anymore? The quality of wood, craftsmanship, electronics etc.. Or are basses made in Korea or Japan or other countries just as good? Thank you guys for your input!!

Used MIA Peavey Cirrus 5 string, otherwise you're spending money on an inferior instrument.

IMHO. Sold my Fenders, although I kept a G&L.

I'd go with a Skyline 55-02.

Agreed on the 55-02 recommendation. Get the Lakland. Extremely versatile bass.
Great 'modern' tone with p/u blend in the middle. Favor the neck p/u for Jazz tone, favor the bridge p/u for StingRay sound. And for an added bonus (particularly with a rosewood fingerboard), if you want an old dirty P tone, stuff something (I personally use a rolled up Crown Royal bag) under the strings at the bridge, turn the p/u blend all the way to the neck and boost the treble knob slightly. It's magic.

You can't go wrong with a used G&L L-2500 (American) or even the Tribute version.

And as a Fender guy you would keep being loyal to Leo!
