She is coming along great. I really dig that neck design! Even the epoxy makes that grain look sweet. Can't wait to see some finish coats.

Thanks! I wanted to fill the grain with shellac, but couldn't find any locally, and the nearest Rockler is a 3 hour-round trip...not counting the two hours I would waste there

Thanks Miz. I remember your comment on my second build about too many "hero woods", that phrase stuck with me! And yeah, did some Photobucket housecleaning, thought I fixed the links...should be better now, thanks for the heads up
That cocobolo/ziricote neck, with lignum vitae fingerboard weight about 7 pounds. It laughed at the strings I put on it, would not relieve at all. I tried to dial in some relief with the truss rod, and the nut sheared right off! Then after about a month the fingerboard had twisted and contorted so much that it popped right off the neck. I also built a bridge out of lignum for that bass, it changed shape and popped off too. I won't be messing with that stuff anymore!
I meant it in the best possible way I like the way you have kept a very tasteful balance here. IMHO, Cocobolo and Zericote aren't as easy to combine well as many seem to believe. Well done!ps: I'll follow your lead and leave Lignum Vitae alone. shame....such a great looking wood

Lignum Vitae needs to be left for Marine Bearings and indestructable decks....LOL so hard, and so heavy. I have a piece I bought to use as a paperweight on my desk...LOL
I have a few planks in my woodpile, left over from that adventure. Every time I look at it, it has twisted and contorted into another shape, I think they call it 'Wood of Life' because it will get up and walk away if left alone long enough.
No doubt, it's an incredible wood but you might as well try to glue a chunk of wax to your bass. IMO it looks great when used for carved objects. My local luthier (for DB) has a beautiful cane that he carved out of Lignum Vitae. With all the oils in the wood you literally polish the wood with a polishing rag and it will polish up like a nice light french polish.

that's why it was used for Marine bearings, so incredibly hard, oily and waxy that it provided years of use on drive shafts of Battleships and such without the expense of bronze
As unruly and impossible to glue as the stuff is, it is quite nice to work with edge tools because of the oil. It also smells amazing. I saved a big tupperware of jointer shavings, they might help start a campfire this summer.

I agree. But the domain name has probably already been snapped up since you posted that! I've been kicking around a few names for if/when I start making these things for other people, because my last name's hard to spell--but every possble name that I've thought of, that is made of actual words, is already claimed.
