The issue I am running into with the rattle can VU is on anything but a perfectly flat surface, the water wants to flow off the edges before the urethane has time to set up.

When the surface is at an angle the water flows to the low spots and forms thick spots in the urethane.

On a flat surface, I can get a nice coat of water and everything drys and flattens beautifully.

What I am hoping with the spray bottle is that I will have finer control over exactly how much water is applied, and only put enough to coat, but not enough to run.

Same process as the headstock to seal the body sunburst. 3 light coats of VU. This is the 3rd and heaviest coat (still wet)

The headstock looks like satin glass.

I'm really excited about how the finish is going.

My initial plan was to get some black and cream pickguard material, and using my dremel as a precision router, cut out the logo in the cream layer. Then layer black, abalone shell, topped with the cream so that the abalone shows through.

I think the hardest part will be placing the center of the "R".

Beveled edges will show all the layers (the abalone layer will be super thin.)

Or, see if you can get a little notch in the N, to make it an upper case N, but still decrease in size and follow the shape of the cover?

It has been an incredible journey so far to build this bass. I literally couldn't have done it without all the support, comments, likes and your own build threads!

This build is really at the extreme limits of my skill set, and everything on this build is pushing me to do the very best I can.

Still quite a ways to go, but the finish line is finally within sight.

He just says it was a goal not a brag. It should be a goal with every project. I complain and get frustrated when I try something new but it’s (usually) pretty neat when it’s done.
