I'd take a look at Cort, as they have some decent basses for the price.
Otherwise I'd strongly consider finding a good used bass, as a $1500 bass new can sell used for $500 if you look in the right places.

there are two Lakland 5501s on Guitar Center's Used site now for $599, and from what I understand you'd have to pay tax and shipping on them (unless you get on the phone and see if you could talk them into shipping for free or something). I can't vouch for them, or for Guitar Center used online. I'd probably be inclined to put those on the backburner and instead try to find one from a good TB seller first.

Made in USA. 35" scale. Neck-thru body. Ebony fretboard with oval MOP inlays. 3 band EQ w/mid frequency sweep. Active pickups. Translucent red over flame maple, w/matching headstock and gold hardware.
It's better than my US G&L L-2500. It's better than my US Peavey Cirrus V was before I upgraded the preamp in it. It's better than my Yamaha TRB5 or my Schecter Stiletto Elite-5.

You can find some experiences and further pictures. They do custom pick guards, and some people have done other things. The black body with mediterranean guard looks killer imo.
I'm growing to like and appreciate mine more and more as I continue to play it, both in terms of sound and feel.
Don't know anything about the Exclusive, sorry.

There's a honey-colored one (it might also be Super Ferrite pickups, though - not sure) in the GuitarCenter.com Used Gear section right now for, I think, $449. Somebody should snap it up.
The BB415's are still available. GC, Musician's Friend and Music123 all have them in stock. I absolutely love mine and recommend it without question.

I agree 100%. My BB415 is the most bass for the least money of any bass I've ever purchased. It's a very, very solid fiver for under $500 brand new, and you just can't beat that.
