Just picked one up in Austin. It sounds amazing. Love the feel of the solid oak neck. The tone is awesome and resonance is good. Great pick for under 800.

Chef FourString, my guess is that you got yourself a Classic '50s Precision. It's made in Mexico, and is a very nice bass that gets a lot of love here on TalkBass. I have one myself and really like it.
What color is it? Does it have a gold anodized pickguard on it? Does it look something like this one shown below? If so, it's a maple neck/fingerboard. Post a pic or two if you can. These things usually sell for around $750.00 new. You mentioned under or around $800.00, so I'm thinking this is what you got. Congrats.

Y'know, it's kind of funny. I'd been told that the Honey Blonde has been discontinued for the Classic '50s. The big on-line places don't offer it anymore - just Black; Fiesta Red; and 2-Tone Sunburst. But yet on Fender's website, they still show the Honey Blonde as an option. So I'm not sure what's up with that.
But yeah, I love the Honey Blonde. I also like the Black and the Fiesta Red; but personally, I don't care for the 2-Tone Burst. I think it's because with bursts, I usually prefer rosewood. But that's just me. For a lot of folks, that's their favorite of the bunch. Either way, these babies are tone-monsters!
Mine had a screw'ed tone pot in it when I got it. I got it for $400! from Guitar Center in NY, shipped it down. I replaced everything w. CTS and put in a pair of 70's DiMarzio P pickups I got from Darkhorse. I didn't like the gold at first and was going to get a custom tort guard but it has grown on me. I hope the neck/gold pickguard/and cream covers kind of start to age all the same color. The figuring in the maple on the fretboard is killer on mine.
It takes a $1800 Musicman neck to feel better than this neck on my '50 P. This bass is amazing.

Oak, Elm, Maple...plywood, fenceboard.... it doesn't really matter. I want to get one of these. I had to give up my 57AV, so the two tone is just what I am looking for.
Hey now wait a minute Datsgor! I don't know how you did that quote, but it wasn't ME who said it was "elm"! It was Chef FourString. He had quoted my earlier post saying it was a maple neck/board.

That color looks different from mine. I really wanted the blonde but the dealer told me that color was unavailable. Here's mine, with a Quarter Pound and TIs:
Probably just the flash or something. Mine is pretty orangey. How do you like the TI's on there? I have a set, but I run Chromes on mine.
