Ok Well, im still waiting for my Simms-Watts to get here hopefully it'll be in my hands on saturday BUT I also bring something else to the Table (just arrived today)
Personally I think it sucks as a 'bass' amp - even through the Aggie GS112nt but it DOES have sweet tube tone for days - so it may not 'thump' but my god does it GRIND.

As I mentioned earlier, I used mine primarily for my "rhythm guitar" rig (via my Akai Uni-Bass), and it served this role quite well. It was supplanted a little while back, though, by a Reverend Hellhound tube combo, which truly kicks some @$$ (on "guitar").
heh, i'm gonna get another guitar cab (probably the matching epi cab) and use the head for both guitar and bass.
I've got a 5w Fender VibroChampXD, and whilst it sounds great, The Epi rig just makes more sense to me at the moment (especially as the aggie cabs - i got two- are part of my real bass rig) and i'll feel a little less dirty about the modelling (it bothers me for guitar, but couldnt love the Tech 21 VTbass any more than I already do)

just picked up my new/old jcm 800 bass series today, man is this thing loud!!! im gonna say that it'll give my vba400 a run for its money in terms of volume and tone and any one that says 100watts of tube glory isnt anouf volume. doesn't know what there talking about

Next: SWR Workingmans 212t (getting it friday night) - 8ohm 2x12, should pair with the Simms nicely.

Have you tried the Epi cab yet? I'm curious as to how well it will work as a bass cab...if at all.

nah, not yet. Gonna wait till pay day for that, just got the SWR Cab but I definitely am looking at the epi cab. Either that or one of those Blackheart Cabs (I really wanted their 1w amp).

The VBA400 is only going to have 6dB more, pushed to the limit, which isn't a huuuuuggggeee amount
Bass won't hurt the amp, it's just guitar speakers you would have to worry about (what impedances does the 800 run at, that could be an issue for using bass speakers, tho easy enough to modify most cabs).
The EQ and gain won't be the same, so it'll sound different to the bass version of the 800. Better or worse? Depends on what you are looking for I guess!
well obvo id run it with bass speekers. tbh i have a strange feeling the head is 8ohms like most guitar heads

Funny you should mention it, because I just tried out my Hellhound head on bass this weekend. For those who don't know, it's 60 watts and kind of a Bassman clone. I had some maintenance done on it and wanted to put it through its paces at band practice. I played it through an SWR 4x10 and was really impressed. Like, impressed to the point of considering ditching my GK combo and picking up a speaker cab. It kept up pretty well with 2 guitarists, so I think as long as I get an efficient cab I should be fine.
Now I have to see if I can go back to my VT Bass -> GK MB210 next practice. I really hate dealing with selling amps, but I may not have a choice

Only in the quest to keep this thread going... I present my Ampeg V4 with 212e cabinet. All together not a very lightweight rig but it is a good size and sounds huge.
