I believe we are just trying to help people, the thread starter in particular, make an informed choice about a computer purchase. I see no reason for hostility.

I STARTED this thread alright. You should've seen his childish and offensive responses to my other posts in other threads. This is not the first time Embryodead is spamming my thread or going with name calling after my posts. I'm ending this discussion about him.

You should. Honestly my dual boot (XP/OSX) Intel Macbook is the best, most compatible computer I have owned.

The truth be known, he ends his article by saying that Windows is just as *****. That's pretty accurate. Truth is, they both suck. The advantages of having a dual-boot machine is that if one "side" is broken, you still have the other. All of my I/O devices, interfaces, printers all work on both "sides". The new machines really are a wonder of compatibility...and this is something that is most important for the collaborating musician, as certain software only works on one platform (Sony's Acid, Apple's Final Cut).

If you are working with someone else...even across the Internet, you literally have ALL of the options with the Intel Mac now. You can even triple-boot, and run Linux!

As for my Macbook...it actually boots into XP by default.

512mb on most laptop graphics card is probably not 512 physical, rather 128 or 256mb onboard and it uses the system ram if needed up to a total of 512mb. And your laptop has only one card, so I do not understand the hehehe here.
Of course I build my own machines and I do not see 6 large as a deal, rather a good easy way for a non-builder to get a gaming ready PC.
And also I am on countless boards and this offtopic section must be the most childish on Mac vs PC comments, I thought we were bass players and smarter than most. I guess I was wrong :)

BTW, Dell cannot give you a good gaming rig for less than you can build it yourself but there are places that can. Cyberpowerpc.com does good work (I've seen it first hand) and I've done several part-by-part comparisons of building it myself vs. buying it from them and their system has always won out on price when I've done that and that's using pricefinder sites on the internet for each part and not including shipping (I haven't done that lately but I assume they still beat the build-it-yourself price). This is ONLY assuming that you are buying ALL new parts and not being given anything or cannibalizing other machines.
Cyberpower also has standard 3 year warranty + free lifetime tech support.

Of course, there are other reasons to build it yourself...just to learn or as a hobby, for instance. Building anything successfully is always rewarding!

...And this is why you should do as Joel stated, and simply play your games on a console. If it's still anything like it was when I was young and foolish enough to try, the act of making a computer play games reliably is at best a foolhardy, frustrating, and needlessly expensive proposition.
