5k rolloff in a DI

The Sansamp Para Driver would work for this application. You can set the blend knob all the way down to turn off the tube emulation, and stick the EQ knobs at noon.

That would give you a flat, linear response up till you hit the 5k LPF speaker emulation. I scope-ed my Para Driver over Thanksgiving out of pure boredom, and it is in fact completely flat out to 5k with the tube emu bypassed and the EQs at noon.

This pedal might be a bit overkill for just doing a LPF, but if you happen to have one sitting around, it'll work nicely.

The speaker sim is off when the blend is turned counterclockwise. There is a slight roll off around 7kHz which is there by design to make the EQ more musical (with the SansAmp circuitry off) when boosting and cutting. That roll of is pretty transparent with the controls set to their null point and it won't suffice as a speaker sim if that is what is trying to be accomplished.
 
I'm sort of a hpf skeptic (I think too many people use them when they really don't need them), but I'm kind of intrigued by the Screaminator. Could be a useful noise-killing solution. I'd have to work with it for awhile though to be able to a/b it and evaluate the tonal tradeoffs...
 
That sucks that the sound man wont work with you. I wonder what reason he/she has for wanting that 5k+ stuff in your bass signal. It's probably full of fret clang and finger noise up there (which can be cool when balanced).

It sounds like you're looking for a solution that won't interfere your playing technique, which I'm fully on board about. To address the closest thing to the source of the 5k+'s noise, have you thought much about the capacitor and wiring you are using in your tone pot circuit (on the bass)? Something called a "treble bleed modification" comes to mind. I assume you are running passive?
 
A simple treble-bleed cap/resistor won't work on a post-pedal (buffered) signal. Otherwise it would be just that easy!

A simple active treble shelf eq with a good sounding slope would be great. Add in a fixed amount of light compression and you're getting closer. It's frustrating because the 2Notes Torpedo CAB does all that, but so much extra stuff we don't want & without an xlr di - you still have to have another box!

I'm thankful that the ToneHammer does what I want. I actually don't leave home without it!
 
I do have and use a VT Bass DI on one board but would like a smaller dedicated DI/filter. The Screaminator is an option but the one I saw was tele/tele; a smaller combined DI with balanced out and filter would be nice.

Palmer The Junction is just that. A passive device that takes a low impedance unbalanced input and transforms it to a cab simulated, balanced output. It's a cab sim and DI-box in one small enclosure. It can take a buffered (low impedance) instrument level signal, line level signal and even a power amp level, so you can take the signal from the speaker out of your amp.
 
I use the junction for recording and live on bass. It is advertised as a guitar tool, but I don't see a reason why it couldn't be used on bass. For one thing, it doesn't cut too much deep bass. My measurments show that it cuts no more than 3-4 dB at 40 Hz. Any real cab with 10" speakers will do worse than that.
It has three settings, I normally use the one called "mellow". It starts to roll-off steep around 3 kHz, which is roughly where my tweeterless cabs roll-off. If you want more modern sound you can use one of the brighter settings.
