6 String BASS Club (Guitarists keep out!)

Did you get that Carvin off Reverb? I was watching one just like that, and it finally sold a few months ago.

Yeah - I bought it in March. All it needed was a little TLC, replacement knobs from Kiesel, new strings and a good setup.

The guy let it go for $400 bc he had recently moved and misplaced the knobs.

Sweeeeeeeeet....

This is my custom 6 from RJ's Custom Shop in Sydney Australia.
Tuned F# - G
Black Limba Body
Macassar Ebony Tops
Wenge/Maple/Purple Heart Neck
Purple Heart Fretboard
HipShot Harware
D-Cline Design knobs
Nordstrand Dual Coil Pick Ups
Delano MS-E Pre Amp

2 years from first talks to having it my hands and it was well worth the wait. I play in a heavy 90's rock/stoner/grunge band, a roots/reggae/rock band and a Sublime cover band and it nails every tone I need.

I'll join and take a number :bassist:

Nice! What bass is that exactly? In what price range are they?

It’s an Elrick. It’s the SLC model, which has smaller and tighter measurements than their normal basses, as well as being semi-hollow (prior to installing a preamp it weighed 9lbs even). They’re expensive- around $5500 for a new 6-string, but I purchased this one used

I've never joined a club at TB, but I want in on this one! Six-string pride, baby! It's surprising how controversial it still is sometimes. I even had a young guy come up to me when I was on stage recently to drunkenly inform me exactly how may strings Jaco required. I reminded him of how Jaco died, in a tone that suggested he might be about to meet the same fate. :roflmao:

I mean, do I look like the kind of guy who would suffer a fool like that gladly?

I always have to say that there no six string basses that I know of when Jaco was playing. Had there been, is it unreasonable to think he wouldn't have been playing a fretless six? There is also a pic of him playing fiver floating around. Those people really need to shut up. I play a six because I'm lazy and dont have to shift as much, and I like having more tonal options.

Ok, this is a new experience, this six string thing. The most impressive difference for me is the size of the instrument! I'm still playing lke I do on a 4 string, but I see possibilities opening up for new approaches, alternate positions/fingerings, and voicings.
Thanks @gebass60 for hipping me to the Sixers' club!
Here's my offering, a first-gen Peavey TL-Six, gotten from TB'er bassman28. This one's been aftermarket-equipped with a Bartolini 3-band pre, and I'm a-digging it...
