6 string bass for metal

Hey guys,

I'm a metal bassist through and through. I live, sleep, breath and eat metal. I want a 6 string bass for prog-metal that can cost anything up to $2000.

My main influence is John Myung, but I also like guys like Alex Webster, Nikki Sixx, Justin Chandler. You know, those dudes.

Anyway, I run through a GK Backline half stack.

Any suggestions are welcome, thanks.

warwick thumb/corvette. i used a corvette fna in a metal band and it was brilliant. also check out mudvayne to hear a thumb in metal.

As to the bass...I guess anything will fo the job as long as you feel good on the instrument!!

The Ibanez BTBs are braw and can carry off a good metal tone

Absolutely. I have a Star Trek uniform in a different color for every day of the week.

You can go with bongo 6 if you like the look of it or with some yamaha 6

I gotta throw it out there - Modulus. I have used a Modulus Quantum Sweet Spot 6 string for metal bands, and i loved it. It had enough bite to "cut" through the guitars and enough balls to fill out the sound of the band. The guys in the band liked it alot, too.

The Yamaha RBXJM2 has been working very well for me, but with JM switching to the Bongo 6, you may want to look into that. Plus, unless the dealer has a JM2 in stock, you might not be able to get one, as mine had to be made by Yamaha and took a couple of months. I'll be honest, I'm gassing for a Bongo 6 now

Warwick all the way.

I play in a metal band and I use Warwick basses. Great tone and excellent feel IMO of course.

Just go and play everything you can get your hands on.

I'd wait for a Bongo 6, and in the meantime upgrade your rig, especially if you're playing live.

I'd go with a (used) Mesa setup. A Big Block 750 and a 410 or would be monster.

an ibanez sr506 worked well for me.

that would be my choice for 6er that are easly found and low in price. but if you want to spend more coin i would go for a spector NS-6XL, or a Warwick 6er but you will spend a lot more for thoes basses that you will for the ibanez sr506 and the sr is sexy

Jason Newsted used to rock an Alembic 6 string on Sad But True on the black alum tour for a whille , see if you can get one used. Peavy Cirrus would be another good try.

probably in about a year... it won't be introduced until NAMM in Jan.
