6-string jazz suggestions

I'm looking to buy a 6-string Jazz(-ish) bass. I would have bought a Fender if they made one, but they don't. The less it deviates from the Fender design the better. Also, I'm not going to wait for a luthier to build me one - been there done that (still doing that!). So I'm only interested in existing instruments; 34" scale, pref. with 17" spacing at the bridge, and J type pu's - no HB's, Soapbars, EMG's Bartolini's etc. Home is The Netherlands, so the closer the better.

So far my options are Clover, Low End, STR. Any other suggestions?

That's a pretty tall order, wanting to keep it close to a Fender design without going to a luthier. As far as I know, you're asking the impossible.

I'll have to keep an eye on this thread, cause I'd love to see what a 6-string, "Fender-Jazz-Ish" looking bass looks like.

This is what I did for a back up six-string on the cheap. Just needed new tuners, bridge and nut to convert this Squier Jazz Deluxe V into a VI. Now the string spacing is tigher than 17mm at the bridge (more like 16mm and a 2.008 inch nut) but I like it that way. Others here on TB have done it too and I am not the first.

i love that idea aswell!

so much so that i started making a 6 string jazz bass myself, but with a twist... its headless.

not finished but i have the body perfect, and the headless neck with just the heel to shape.all bridge and tuners bought from status in UK. (happy to post pics if asked)

but the jb shape has always appealed to me and i can see why you are after it.

Someones Mentioned LowEnd Jazz basses and i've heard nothing but good things about them so those seems like a good choice. Atelier Z also makes a six string that i've heard good things about. The body shape is a bit more modern but its just gives you better upper fret access. It may bit tough to get a hold of one because i think they are Japanese but you may be able to find one used around the forums. Here ar some pics i managed to find of Atelier Z 6ers.

Personal owner of an STR bass.

Most of their basses are 18mm string spacing, especially for 6-string, and 34" with tight B string. That's the best part personally.

From what I know they're known for the silent single coils and are relatively more affordable than most. From Europe you might wanna find this dealer:

Might be better than buying from LowEnd.

Oh yes you can send your own preamp or choose your own preamp you want them to fit onto your bass. I have to say that the feel of the neck is a bit more chunky than vintage F Bass and slightly more chunky than a current F Bass. However, that's actually alright as long as your set-up is good. That's my advice if you're thinking of STR. =)
