6 X 10 Enclosures: Suggestions?

I was considering the 810 or the new VS412. I tried the little LB112 and it had a really sweet sound, and it's the same speakers in the 412 apparently.
The 610 and 810 are sealed I gather, how would you describe the sound (always tricky I know).

I felt that what I was getting at the volume I was playing at that it's tonally balanced(I was at a decent volume). And it had a low end response that seemed well suited for my needs.

I was playing out of a Ashdown Spyder 550. And the combination was clean with just the right amount of grit if I so chose. I ordered the head as well.


Another factor for me was the size. Not a huge 610 and smaller than two 410 cabs.

Problem partially solved: Ralph is driving the cab across the GW Bridge to Harrington Park, NJ, where a near-family member owns an auto repair garage (near North Bergen?). A friend and co-worker will pick it up during her next family visit. Might be a month or more but I'm in no hurry.

That being said...If anybody happens to be driving from that area to Norfolk / Hampton Roads in the immediate future, please let me know! I will not be taken hostage by USPS, UPS, FedEx for $200+. Thanks to everyone for their assistance and input during this project!

I feel your pain - I went thru something similar when I bought my PH810... It had been marked down from $1200 used to $800, because of it's location and shipping estimates... So, I put half down, gassed up my truck, and drove from Syracuse, NY to Springfield NJ - 500 miles, round trip... It burnt up the better part of a day, and cost me around $90 - but in the end, I got a like new Mesa PH810 for well under a grand total, with the OEM cover... And on the bright side, I got a friend of mine to tag along, and we had a good time spending the day together...

Excellent! Nice cab, too. I think we should start a "TB Pony Express" sub-forum to assist with the transfer & hand-off of bulky items any distance.

Ralph / Rapisme just called and the cab is in NJ...one state closer, anyway.

For a modern, more aggressive in your face and punchy tone, get the Mesa PH610.

For a more old school, rounded tone, get the NV610.

Both are killer. All else are just couldvebeens.

My first choice would be the Mesa 6x10 out of home town pride (well not home town but I used to live in Petaluma and work across the street from Mesa). I also really like how their 6x10 or 4x12 sound. Or maybe a pair of 2x12 cabs sound.
2nd would be the Bergantino NV610 or NV412
3rd would be the an Aguilar DB412. Why doesnt Aggy make a 6x10?!
I used to like the SWR sound a long time ago but finally realized that the "hifi" sound of SWR was not to my taste. I also know a few bassists that have had to return SWR stuff, some multiple times, due to stuff being broken out of the box, or shortly after power up. One guy found the tweeter wasnt even wired to anything!

The Bergantino NV610 is the greatest bass cab I've ever owned or tried. It's sealed (no port) and has no tweeter, like the original Ampeg 8x10, but gives me all the lows and highs I need for gritty aggressive five-string playing... and of course it'll do warm, too.

My QSC puts out 500W per channel at 4 ohms and bridged 1100W at 8 ohms and 1600W at 4 ohms.

Is the 1600W bridged at 4 ohms too much for the Berg? Is 500W at 4 ohms mono really enough to take advantage of all the cab has to offer? Maybe a limiter between the pre and power would be prudent?

This issue becomes less critical with the Mesa 610 and really non existent with the Epi UL-610.

I have asked this in the other current 610 thread where I am the OP. However, different threads have different eyes and ears!!

Depends on your live gigging needs. It's a pretty sensitive cabinet (103db) so 500 watts will give you a LOT of sound. The cabinet was designed to work well with 300 watt tube heads.
Should you choose to bridge the QSC, and you play a 5-string, a high-pass filter wouldn't be a bad idea.

I like the tone of 6x10 cabs. The problem is some of them are almost as heavy as an 8x10 cabinet.

Just want to chime in a little late on this one, I have this same power amp, and I can tell you that the 610 will respond MUCH better if you run the amp bridged, you won't be overpowering it as long as you don't go nuts with the preamp controls. I've never found the plx1602 to have much headroom in stereo mode, it has to do with the voltage differences between stereo and bridged. Even with two Aguilar GS112s the the plx1602 worked much better bridged mode. It's this reason I've always wanted to trade it in for the newer 1804/1802 model for versatility.. seems better matched for use in a bass rig. I am soon to be in the market for a new cab and I have gas for a 610 after this thread.
