6 X 10 Enclosures: Suggestions?

I'd say it depends on what kind of sound you're after - if you're after the classic mid heavy sound that an Ampeg 810 gives, the Berg is by far the best there is to offer... If you're looking for a more modern sound - lots of low end, adjustable horn for lots of highs - then either Mesa's PH610 or SWR's Goliath Sr are the best I've played so far... I have to admit that I haven't played the Genz Benz cab, although I'd certainly consider it, given what I've seen from their company thus far...

Find a used Mesa 6x10. Or even better it would still be in your budget to find a used Mesa road ready 6x10. Its not a 6x10 but you could also find a Powerhouse 1000 or 1200 cab in your price range too. Used ofcourse. Best cab I have ever owned.
I wouldnt get the Ampeg 6x10 either. If you really wanted to go Ampeg I would just go for the 8x10 or the 4x10(the tall one thats heavily ported).
If your not playing rock or metal then some of the more contemporary cabs might suit your voicing needs better.

I'm actually thinking of selling off my PH610 - I really don't use it since I got my PH810, and I'm thinking that either a PH215 or PH412 would be nice...

Hmmm....lots of gear to put on my "watch for" radar. I'm still impressed by my Acme cabs (keeping two B-2's) so I'm not willing to make a trade-off in the tone dept. for the sake of convenience in a 610. Also, shipping is a consideration but I live fairly close to the DC metropolitan area so I imagine a semi-local deal will pop up in time.

A couple of years ago I was doing some R&D work with some on-board bass preamps and needed to test my preamp designs with some high end standards. I ended up with three test rigs for side by side comparisons - Aguilar DB750/GS412, Thunderfunk420/Bergantino HT322 and an Ampeg SVT VR/Bergantino NV610.
The TF/322 was the best SS rig and the SVT/NV610 was the best tube rig so I kept both of those and sold off the aggie rig. About a year later I got the urge to try the Ampeg 810 with the SVT VR. I picked it up from Guitar Center (largely because of their great return policy) and a week later it went right back to the store. The Ampeg 810 was no match for the NV610 at any volume or any tone. It got muddy on the low B and didn't carry the highs on G string nearly as good as the NV610 nor did it have the punch of the 610.
You've seen a number of responses on this thread already about how good the bergie is - that's an understatement. I'm a gas addict and now that I have my NV610 I have absolutely no gas when it comes to cabs and amps these days (well I would like to try a Bergie NV215).
I bought both my Bergies used and only paid about $600 for the 610 and $400 for the 322. I know I can sell them anytime for what I paid for them.
Seems like there's usually NV610's for sale in the TB classifieds, look there before buying new.

Best I've played, the Bergantino NV610 hands down.
I do like the Ampeg Classic 6x10. ( They can be had cheap,used)
And Ashdown is coming out with a new 6x10 that looks cool.
Made to go with there new Dropdown 200 Head.

My two cents. I use a Mesa PowerHouse 6x10 cabinet and it sounds amazing! Outputs a very clean and clear sound and also is built solid. Sure it is kind of heavy and "big," but most cabs bigger than a 4x10 get into that big weight-size category. New this would be out of your price range, however I was able to find mine used for $599! Great used gear is out there, be sure to check your local Craigslist, Guitar Center, or look online at MusiciansFriend.com. If you do the Craigslist route do be sure to try it out and inspect it in person first before making the commitment to buying. Also I have seen some pretty nice gear on the classifieds here on TB. If you cannot find a 6x10 in your price range or what you are looking for you could always do like others have said and pair a 2x10 with a 4x10. As always try everything out first if possible so you know what it sounds like.

If you want to get serious, I'd go with a SWR Henry the 8 x 8. I've heard most everything out there and I've never heard anything that has as much punch and is as solid as this. It's in the same size and weight range as most of the 6 x 10 pieces out there
