60s Bubblegum Pop Name (not Beatles Covers)

The REGGIES-
I did a similar band back in 1990-'94 & we did pretty well- establishing ourselves a reg. weekly gig at one pub & many others. We called it THE REGGIES in honour of THE ARCHIES- & did a no. of Archies songs, as well as the 'usual' culprits:-
Yummy yummy, Quick Joey Small, etc... & did a fair few 'other hits' by less well known 'bubblegum' acts!!

"Poppa Joe"(The Sweet)- how many key changes at the end of THAT one???!!!-

( "I didn't know I loved you(till I saw U rock n roll)", "Do U wanna touch",
BTO- "Aint seen Nuthin' Yet",
Bay City Rollers- "Bye Bye Baby" (an old 4 seasons hit IIRC)
& some Tommy Roe- "Dizzy", "Sweet Pea"..etc..

Have I given U a few more songs to do??? ;) Ah - I LOVED playing Bass on that stuff :crying: - some GREAT bass lines in there too!!:bassist:

It's kind of funny.. after playing complex jazz stuff I rolled my eyes after hearing the first run through of the set list.

I can't even explain how excited the period crowd gets when they year a VERY thin sounding (pre phil spector) 6 part haromony as it would have sounded on AM radio..

My band mates are VERY committed to the authenticity.. we're lucky to have found a drummer who doesn't over do it.

My band plays a very wide variety of sonsg from the last six decades and some of them are from the bubblegum, pop rock era. People love those tunes when we play them no matter if they are young or old. Some of the tunes we play like that are:

Love Grows Where My Rosemary Goes - Edison Lighthouse
I'm Not Your Stepping Stone - The Monkees
Happy Together - The Turtles

Another genre that goes over huge with people are the surf and other instrumental tunes we play like:

Bumble Bee Rock
Pipeline
Walk, Don't Run
Surf Rider
Miserlou
Wipeout
Blues Theme
Time Is Tight
Rumble

It's amazing - I was floored.

There's an entire library of tunes I'd never heard like "Next Plane to London" etc...

The single coolest thing about it is the "groove" (if you can call it) is simple enough that I can sing and play.. my complex singing and playing has finally taken off - in the past my playing was kind of nutty --- complex grooves.. then just roots (during singing)
