62 Jazz...$950

Perhaps. But it's definitely the best pickguard for fiduciary idiocy (say that one three times fast!).

The seller is fishing for offers and putting a stupid high number up front will put off potential buyers without the means to make a "reasonable" offer. Seller is still trying to hose some chump, but i'd bet the farm it sells for much less to someone who will be really proud he got the seller down to $750.00

Could be the pickguard off of Jaco's 62' Bass of Doom? Is there baby powder residue as evidence?
I just added all of his parts to my Reverb cart just to check the price. Assuming this bass is for real, it would cost $7,005 (with shipping) to buy all of the available parts and then put it back together. However, that would NOT include the pickups, pots, control plate, knobs or a case as those are not available from the seller (must have sold already). So.... I'm not sure how much a refin '62 jazz is going for these days (minus the guts), but there you go... I suppose someone could buy just the body and neck (if legit) for 5k and then slowly find used parts down the line.
I paid about the same for a '70's Stingray pickguard a few years back. Crazy and killed me to pay so much for a stupid piece of old plastic but it ultimately netted me an extra $500-750 when I sold it as the PG was the only thing missing to make it 100% period correct.I paid $250.00 for a 1974 Flying V pickguard about 10 years ago
The Jazz PG could add thousands to the value of a bass that is original except the PG.
That's how Reverb works, has nothing to do with "chump" or hosing anyone. Heck the site even offers a price guide and comparisons to others RIGHT THERE ON THE LISTING in most cases so the buyer can get a sense of what it's worth. Almost everything listed there is overpriced and then gets negotiated down. I have sold a lot of stuff that way and you end up in the happy medium zone where both parties agree to what is fair to them. And, as a bonus, sometimes the buyer wants it bad enough to not bother making an offer, or is rich enough to not care, and you get top dollar.
In that context it makes a $950 PG sound idiotic.

I marvel at this all the time people spending insane amounts of money for machined blocks of wood with car paint that are not even close to the quality of an alembic,ken smith fodera etc
Sorry should have made myself clear, IMO anyone giving that kind of money, even negotiated down to half the asking, for what could be a well executed fake made using a $30 guard based on nothing but some photos and a buyers guide, is a chump. Now if it was coming from some place like Gruhn guitars and I was in town where I could lay hands on it before I committed the cash, and I had a burning desire to have an authentic period correct guard for a 62 jazz, I still wouldn't do it, but I could see where someone might in that situation., but from a stranger based on a few photos? Too many people looking to hose some chump for me to ever trust that situation.
Not vouching for the seller, but if it's a late '62 neck it will have a veneer (cap) fretboard. The change from slab to veneer happened in mid-62.
